Dear Bashir Ahmad, I honestly don’t think she was trying to drag your family into this. You may have taken it personally, but I think the point was much simpler:
You are a husband. You should understand the pain of men whose wives have been raped, kidnapped, tortured or killed by bandits.
You are a father. You should understand the agony of parents whose children have been abducted and taken into the bush.
And while these atrocities continue, the government whose policies and leadership you support is being criticised for its response to the insecurity.
Nobody mentioned your wife or children personally. Nobody attacked your family. The reference to being a husband and father was simply an appeal to empathy.
Being a public figure means your public positions can be challenged. Not every uncomfortable argument is an invasion of your private life. Sometimes, instead of reaching for “appropriate channels,” you should simply engage with the actual point being made.
