🇺🇸 TYPHOON HALONG’S REMNANTS RIP THROUGH ALASKA, HOMES SWEPT AWAY

First responders have carried out dozens of rescues as the remnants of Typhoon Halong slammed western Alaska, unleashing winds up to 70 mph and flooding six feet above normal tides.

Entire homes were washed away in coastal towns along the Bering Sea and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Senator Dan Sullivan confirmed.

The storm, which formed in the Philippine Sea earlier this month, brought massive waves and destruction from Saturday night into Monday, leaving parts of Alaska’s western coast underwater and families homeless.

Halley’s Comet meteor shower has begun.

From now until November 22, Earth is moving through a dusty trail left behind by Halley’s Comet – and that means it’s time for the Orionid meteor shower.

These fast, bright meteors will peak around October 21, with up to 20 meteors per hour visible under dark skies.

Every flash of light is a tiny piece of Halley’s Comet, burning up as it slams into Earth’s atmosphere at 41 miles per second (66 km/s). The particles are small – often no bigger than grains of sand – but they hit with incredible speed, producing streaks of light that sometimes leave glowing trails behind.

And here’s what makes it even more incredible: this one comet creates two meteor showers every year.

When Halley travels through the inner solar system, it sheds debris in both directions. In May, Earth crosses the outbound trail, giving us the Eta Aquariids. In October, we cross the inbound trail, which lights up the sky with the Orionids.
