Two weeks ago Palestine had peace. It was a sad, hard, struggling peace but it was peace

We all JUST WATCHED Hamas end that

We JUST saw this. We now know for an absolute certainty that Israel cannot unilaterally create peace by inaction

In good faith, I understand the spirit of Hajar's point. And I think (I hope) all compassionate people want a better situation there with rights for everyone

But Israel left Gaza almost 20 years ago

Their withdrawal was not enough to cause permanent peace and we all know why

The parties have not reached an agreement and one of them continues to resort to violence

It is literally true that right now Israel could stop and the violence would pause

But that peace would be temporary

And Israel would not be the party to break it

For over half a century now the violence has come from the other side

Hamas and others have disproved the theory that Israel could make peace alone again and again and again

Sometimes multiple bad things are true—Israel has been oppressive and Hamas has been violent

Call it nuance or multi-polar awfulness or whatever you want, but neither party is blameless and all bad things are not equally terrible

Oppression is bad. Mass murder is worse

It's a horrible situation, and the tough truth is that the dynamic is just not as simple as oppressor vs oppressed

We should all push for better outcomes, but pretending this conflict is morally two-dimensional doesn't make anything easier, because it just factually isn't

Solutions will come from the real world, and the real world is complex

I used a long post here because sometimes character limits make deep talk hard, and this is one of those times. Feel free to flame. I'll try not to respond
