BREAKING: Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez formally launches her bid to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee — a position that will give her great power to fight the Trump regime.

This is a political earthquake...

"This is not a position I seek lightly," AOC wrote in a letter to her colleagues. "The responsibility of leading Democrats on the House Oversight Committee during Donald Trump’s second term in the White House is a profound and consequential one."

"Now, more than ever, we must focus on the Committee’s strong history of both holding administrations accountable and taking on the economic precarity and inequality that is challenging the American way of life," she added.

Ocasio-Cortez has promised to cooperate with Republicans on issues like reforming pharmacy benefit managers but said that she'll give them "hell" on issues they disagree on.

Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly is also after the powerful position, a contest made possible by Congressman Jamie Raskin's stepping down to take the top spot on the Judiciary Committee.

The last American slave ship docked illegally in Mobile, Alabama in 1860, carrying about 160 West African captives. Among them was Cudjo Lewis, who recognized how his birth culture might be erased while toiling in this new land.

So when he was freed, he purchased two acres and started a self-sufficient community of survivors of the last slave ship. Known to outsiders as Africatown, Lewis' neighborhood was modeled on his West African home, where extended families lived together, members conversed in their regional languages, and partook in traditions that might otherwise be lost to them in America.

Today, Africatown still exists and houses the descendants of the nation's last slave ship community.

OUTRAGEOUS: Kevin McCarthy, the barely-selected Speaker of the House, has accused Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg of weaponizing the system of justice against Donald Trump, merely for doing his job of investigating and prosecuting criminals.

DA Bragg was himself the target of intimidation last week, having been sent an envelope containing white powder and the words "Alvin: I'm going to kill you!"

And, in the very same tweet posted last night, Speaker McCarthy vows to weaponize the power of the government with his statement "the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power to account."

Rep. Jim Jordan, ironically in charge of a Weaponization of Government Committee, should investigate McCarthy for this blatant threat against an officer of the court.
