@MercerKaely Definitely, the ability for anyone to get a start recording music has also let many artists shine where decades ago they’d be shunned for their “alternative” lifestyles (think George Micheal having to shoot music videos with female love interests)
@MFDonnnie Definently agree with the blended class lines, phones are nearly universal and services like spotify are certainly cheaper than a record collecting habit.

Comparable to the phonograph “allowing” men to enjoy music, streaming services and headphones allow anyone to listen to anything at any time. I can switch from the Black Eyed Peas to Black MIDI on the bus and no one would know or judge.
@cassie_perfect Definitely. It’s also important to note that these trends are also a money-making shortcut, and it’s hard to blame people for choosing the most financially responsible option of making what people want to hear.

I would choose to call popular music “simplified” rather than “dumbed-down.” Even if we see simplification as a restriction, making a bona fide hit still requires intelligence, intuition, and individuality to produce a personality and a style that’s worth our time.
