@JustineBrian@LucyGoBag He benefits because people come to the restaurant. The restaurant is benefiting from the lift being available. The lift becomes part of the service of the restaurant.
@paullewismoney@GilbertMedlock@UKLabour And given people are having children later. A full DC pot would be more critical to children who are minors still if their parents die in their 40s or 50s…
@LucyGoBag It could be that they predicted and mitigated the risk but the failure of imagination was the degree of impact. Which I can only see mitigated by a stronger warning (slightly ignoring the editing). Leaving potential outcomes that are unacceptable to some (or horrible, difficult)
@happymum2005@LucyGoBag Mitigated harm to the broadcast audience, yes. But not to those present at the BAFTAs… And it would likely have been reported / leaked to the outside world as well.
@LucyGoBag Because excluding John Davidson is not a mitigation, or is it? (I don’t think it is. You can’t exclude him) Is there any mitigation which is “harm free”, and if not what residual risk / harm is acceptable?
@LucyGoBag Genuine question - what is the mitigation? Is it a warning at the beginning that explicitly states the risk of hearing racist, misogynistic and other offensive phrases? Or is that an unacceptable burden on the audience?
@Dr_Gavin_Brewis In a system where the workers own the production and the value of that production goes from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs, are the people with greater needs exploiting those with greater skills? Genuine question. You might dispute me using “value”
@thomasforth Well, I was not expecting that. (Or putting in the effort to look). Hope they weren’t resting on their 50s laurels in the 80s. I shall look into how Britain spun off this discovery to improve the competitiveness of our dark satanic mills.
@thomasforth I don’t disagree, but how much defence could these now-broken institutions put up against Thatcherism at the time? Where could wool be now? How productive would various agencies and institutions be now? (and would everyone accept their pension liabilities)
@Gavin_F_Brewis I’m not sure why I’m diverting myself. I should have originally said that your statement that for the powers that be- as long as there was cannon fodder then that was 👍 - felt overly cynical. A gay minister is likely well aware of the long history of discrimination in the forces
@Gavin_F_Brewis Other than material appeal (job, learn a trade, - hit or miss outcomes). Is any desire to protect or serve a country and the people who live in it (community..?) an appealing reason?
@LucyGoBag Can you expand on this a little bit? Does it include moral injury / just workplace type stuff? What is the greatest barrier in healthcare to aviation systems? Thanks
@Gavin_F_Brewis I don’t have the reading. I’ve just been pondering social networks, from my middle class England (Kent) experience, my late partner’s working class Irish, and then living in Scotland for 20 years.
@Gavin_F_Brewis For anything sufficiently complex / multi-variable, nothing is completely right. But some things can be less wrong than others. And we can’t run social experiments, ethically.
