Over the last few months we have been corresponding with Christopher Thomson regarding the loss of his Uncle Lt. Robert Caldwell Maclaren, who was tragically on the 24th April 1950 in the crash of Supermarine Seafire XV SR611 at Highmore Cross, Oxon.

Arsenal VB 10 French fighter-interceptor developed during and shortly after WW2. 200 ordered but delivery cancelled 1948 after fourth airplane delivered. with French Air Force relying on surplus British/US fighters to tide it over until domestically produced jet fighters appeared

Californian Pole Pilot Officer ‘Mike’ Kolendorski was the first American Volunteer ‘Eagle’ killed in action.

Billy joined the RCAF and later transferred to the RAF. He was sadly to become the first United States Citizen to be killed in the second world conflict.

Back in 1989 David King did a four page article for After The Battle magazine regarding the letter and the crash which is attached for interest.

Lancaster I RF150 QB-W 424 Squadron (R.C.A.F.) Took-off 1808 hrs from Skipton-on-Swale on this night 4th/5th April 1945 to bomb the Leuna oil refining facilities. Homebound, flew into a wooded hillside at 0220 hrs at Widdenton Park, close to the boundary of RAF Booker Airfield.
