@nicbstme@benthompson Meta is playing this role perfectly. From a business perspective, this essentially gives it a monopoly over everything, which is unfair.
@zephyr_z9 Alibaba launched AI agents a long time ago, but it faces the same dilemma: a subscription-based business model. No other company has a platform with 4 billion users and the monetization capabilities that Meta has.
@StreetSignal__@GavinSBaker Yes, open-source models are essentially a suicide mission. Even Meta is changing its policy. Gavin keeps promoting open-source models because he’s long infrastructure stocks, but 99% of open-source models are doomed to fail due to national security and subsidy-related sanctions.
@GavinSBaker@StreetSignal__ Just wait and see. Even Meta is moving away from open-source AI. Betting on open-source in the AI market is basically suicide. China has little choice due to its hardware constraints, while the U.S. could shut off access to Chinese models with a single policy decision.
@GavinSBaker@StreetSignal__ No . Open-source models won’t survive long-term. Chinese AI labs have low revenues, making expansion difficult. Worse, democratic countries could wipe them off global markets by labeling them a “national security risk” or citing subsidized competition.

Meta Muse could unlock a powerful new ad model: capturing users’ active intent, not just browsing behavior. @Muse
If Meta connects these signals to Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, ad targeting could become dramatically more precise, boosting conversions and advertiser ROI.
@bubbleboi You’re only realizing this now? This has been happening for quite some time already.
If you really have insider knowledge, shouldn’t you already know how much of the revenue at the frontier labs is coming from large enterprises?
So why are you only now acting surprised by this?
@zephyr_z9 Why has everyone been mocking Zuckerberg for the past decade? Meta is clearly one of the most successful companies, with its community platform reaching half the world's population. Is it really just because of his appearance?
@BillAckman You’re just posting this because Microsoft is breaking out.
The barriers to AI cloud providers are much lower than those of traditional cloud platforms, which have to offer a wide range of services.
