Every time you choose the difficult path, your brain changes. Neuroscience has identified a region called the anterior midcingulate cortex, or aMCC, that plays an important role in persistence, effort, and the ability to keep going when things become difficult. Research suggests that this region becomes stronger when we consistently engage in challenging tasks rather than avoiding them.

This means resilience is not simply a personality trait. Like a muscle, it develops through repeated use. Every workout completed when motivation is low, every uncomfortable conversation, every obstacle faced instead of avoided becomes part of the process that strengthens the neural circuits involved in perseverance.

The brain adapts to what we repeatedly ask of it. Choosing comfort reinforces the habit of seeking comfort. Choosing effort reinforces the capacity for greater effort. Over time, actions that once seemed difficult begin to feel natural because the brain has reorganized itself around those repeated experiences.

Growth has always required challenge. Biology reflects the same principle. Muscles grow by adapting to resistance. Bones become stronger under load. The brain develops through solving problems that demand more than what feels comfortable in the moment.

Perhaps willpower is less about possessing extraordinary determination and more about consistently training the systems that support it. Every challenge becomes an opportunity to strengthen the mind, reminding us that the person we become is shaped not only by our successes, but by the moments we choose effort when comfort would have been easier.

The perfect circle is actually a 3D helix (a spiral). Two points moving at different heights in time that may look from above are actually far apart.

What we can learn from time, maths and alignment is that the more we learn we begin to understand how much we do not know.

The Wonder of childhood was never left behind it remains available in every present moment.

As children experience unfolded without constant comparison to the past or anticipation of the future. Attention rested naturally on what was happening now. Ordinary moments felt extraordinary because awareness was fully engaged with them.

As life becomes more complex, the mind gradually learned to live in the memory and expectation. We revisit what has already happened and imagine what has not yet arrived, often overlooking the only place where life is actually taking place. The present moment quietly becomes a bridge that's crossed without being noticed.

Returning to presence is not about becoming a child again. It's about recovering a way of seeing that has always remained within us. The capacity for wonder doesn't disappear with age. It simply covered by distractions, routine and the constant movement of thoughts.

Perhaps  the child within us was never waiting in the past. Perhaps that part of ourselves has always existed beneath the noise, inviting us into the same openness, curiosity and aliveness that once came so naturally. When awareness returns to the present the world begins to reveal itself with a depth that was there all along reminding us that the greatest moments in life are rarely found somewhere else. They are discovered exactly where we already are. ❤️

It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize.

As part of our commitment to supporting student excellence, the National Laureate Prize is a new national platform to celebrate and reward outstanding research, innovation and intellectual excellence across our universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

Backed by an initial annual prize fund of ₦365 million, the National Laureate Prize will award ₦35 million for the Undergraduate Star Prize, ₦50 million for the Master’s Star Prize and ₦100 million for the Doctoral Star Prize, alongside ₦180 million for 15 Thematic Excellence Prizes, valued at ₦12 million each.

The Prize is open to students and researchers across every accredited tertiary institution in Nigeria, providing a truly national platform to identify and reward our brightest minds and most impactful research.

Yesterday, I held a press briefing alongside members of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) National Laureate team, where we formally announced the Prize, outlined its vision and structure, and answered questions from members of the media on its implementation, selection process and long-term objectives.

In addition to the Star Prizes, the National Laureate Prize will feature special awards across critical fields, including Engineering and Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Agriculture, Law and Teaching Innovation.

We have also introduced the Dr. Stella Adadevoh Prize for Medicine and Medical Innovation, a special award established in honour of Dr Adadevoh’s extraordinary courage and contribution to our nation.

Jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education and NERD, the Prize will operate through a transparent, competitive and merit-driven process that puts academic excellence and impact first.

This initiative reflects the clear direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the Renewed Hope Agenda: to build a Nigeria where knowledge, skills, research and innovation are deliberately harnessed to create opportunities, strengthen our economy and improve the lives of our people.

The President has continued to demonstrate his commitment to investing in Nigeria’s human capital and giving our young people the platforms they need to compete, innovate and succeed. Through the National Laureate Prize, we are translating that vision into another tangible opportunity for Nigerian students and researchers.

The whole scenario seems collectively agreed upon. What sort of orientation must have given them such legitimacy to carry out such an act happily .
