As hard as it may be economically, to avoid huge loss of life the following must be done:
-Nationwide lockdown with adequate protections to distribute money & food for workers & the poor
-Vaccinate door-to-door
-Masking
-Massive international aid: meds, oxygen, vaccines

My dadi lived a full life, so NOT mourning her COVID death. Only, for someone with 9 kids, 23 grandkids, 16 great grandkids, to be finally reduced to a token in a queue of dead bodies, with none of her family around, this utter lack of dignity was jarring and undeserving. Shame!
