This is purely my speculation, but I've always considered whether the reason Harada couldn't get Tifa for Tekken 8 is because Tekken 7 got Noctis.

Harada has explained that Tifa would require approval from Tetsuya Nomura, since he created her design and is the Co-director for FF7R. Nomura also created Noctis and was originally directing Final Fantasy XV before the project was handed over to Hajime Tabata.

That means the Tekken 7 team may have been able to get approval for Noctis through Tabata and Square Enix without needing Nomura's direct sign-off.

If that's true, I can imagine Nomura wasn't thrilled about one of his most personal characters appearing in Tekken without his approval. They basically went around him.

So when Bandai later came asking for Tifa, it may have been a... sensitive subject. Obviously the @maximilian_ interview framed it as a simple decline, in my head, Tekken & @PhiDXGames was only ever getting Noctis or Tifa - never both.

That's just my headcanon though. I don't know the facts. It's just a fun theory to think about.
