MKO and BAT......1993 and 2023......
The first time I voted in a general election was on June 12, 1993. It was a presidential election. I voted at a Primary School in Akeetan Oyo, it was like a funfair. Abiola of the SDP defeated Tofa of the NRC by the longest margin. Yes, longest margin because we didn't use ballot papers, we queued behind the party of our choice..... it was a crushing defeat. In most part of Nigeria, the election was peaceful almost absolutely and it was peacefully concluded also. The local and international observers spoke with one voice that June 12 poll was the best election ever held in Nigeria and possibly unrivaled in Africa.
Lest I forget, a few hours before the election, one Oguta, Imo State Born Arthur Nzeribe had secretly procured a court injunction around 9pm in the evening of June 11, at the FCT High Court barring National Electoral Commission NEC from conducting the June 12 election. INEC and indeed, the whole world were determined to ensure that the election was held.
Results of this election were trickling in, Abiola was obviously coasting home to victory. Nzeribe was holding series of press conferences threatening to disrupt the process. When it was beyond doubt that Abiola would win, NEC Chairman Nwosu disappeared from the public and announcement of Results was paused. Rumour had it that he was arrested by the Aso Rock Military on the instruction of Ibrahim Babangida. For about a week, no more announcement of Results. And suddenly IBB appeared with a live broadcast announcing the annulment of the election. It was widely circulated that the military led by Sani Abacha threatened to kpai IBB and Abiola if Abiola was declared. IBB was afraid but Abiola was unperturbed. Abiola wondered why a military man like IBB would be afraid of his fellow military men. Abacha threatened that there would be coup against Abiola. Abiola insisted that the result of his election must be released still. But IBB did not want to die. He had already spent 8 years in power and wanted to retire peacefully to enjoy his well looted loots. IBB escaped leaving Abiola to his fate. Both Abiola and Abacha fought the Interim Government left by IBB to a coma until Abacha's ealier promised coup sacked it.The battle was bloody between Abiola and Abacha, a lot of people were neutralised, jailed and exiled. In the end, Abiola and Abacha died too! Yar'adua who thought he would benefit from it also died. OBJ the two mouthed peacemaker narrowly escaped death. It was a ugly battle that signified the end of military rule in Nigeria.
But 30 years later, same scenario repeated itself. Agulu man and his supporters blackmailed Tinubu's Ticket in churches, there were threats, very empty threats. Atiku was positioning himself as the favourite of the Cabal. OBJ asked Buhari to annul the election. But Buhari made the difference. Unlike IBB, Buhari had no loots to retire to after 8 years(although his aides stole heavily), his aides did not want Tinubu but Buhari stood firm! Buhari didn't annul Tinubu’s election. Yes, there were threats of coup against Tinubu too, the coup failed woefully years after. But unlike IBB, Buhari died. May be he died so that his friend can live, may be! Unlike Abiola, Tinubu didn't die. May be he didn't die so that Abiola will not die twice! Whatever the case may be, HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY to All Progressives only ❤️

Why Are Churches Growing and Businesses Dying in Africa?
I asked Bishop David Oyedepo this, amongst many other questions, in our one-on-one meeting last week.
His answer was, “ Information, My Son! I read 39 biographies about great ministers who went ahead and their ministry operations before we started The Living Faith; how many business founders read about those in their field who have gone ahead of them? For example, if someone wants to start a Real Estate Business, they need to study other successful Real Estate Companies and learn what to do and avoid. I studied other giants to know how to respond when people say nonsense about Me. It was easy to understand, for example, how to deal with Government as A Pastor because I studied those ahead of Me. I deal at arm’s length with the Government. A former CBN Governor Told Me, we research you and are shocked that not a Dime of Government Money is in your church “.
As I said, I spent one hour with Bishop, but I became ten years wiser after that encounter.
Many of us in Business and careers don’t have the required information to succeed in our fields and refuse to invest in them the same way many pastors did their own. I Am personally upset at the careless ways Christians take their business and careers and still wonder why the results are little. As Bishop will say, assumption is the mother of Frustration.
This year alone, I have invested over 100,000 USD in-formal self-development. How many of us have invested 10% of what we earn in information to deepen our knowledge in our field?
You can only rise to the depth of intelligence you operate with. Deepen your knowledge, and you will increase your results over time.
I encourage all who read this to create a knowledge investment budget in their field. That’s the only way to the top, guys.
