INEC TRAINS REGISTRATION OFFICIALS AHEAD OF DEVOLVEMENT OF CVR TO REGISTRATION AREAS IN OSUN STATE.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a two-day training of Registration Officials across the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Osun State, as part of preparations for the devolvement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to the Registration Area (RA) level.
The training, which began on Wednesday, 1st April 2026, is being organised by The Electoral Institute (TEI) to equip personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills for the effective conduct of the CVR at the grassroots, in line with legal provisions and the Commission’s commitment to deepening voter access and participation.
Participants, comprising staff of the Commission and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), are being taken through comprehensive modules covering registration procedures, operational processes, and the deployment of relevant tools and technology required for seamless voter enrolment.
The devolvement of the CVR exercise to the Registration Area level is a strategic step by the Commission to bring voter registration closer to eligible citizens, ahead of the #OsunDecides2026 Election scheduled for 15th August 2026. The initiative is expected to enhance inclusivity, improve service delivery, and ensure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to register in a timely and efficient manner.
PRESS RELEASE
INEC’S POSITION ON THE COURT OF APPEAL’S DECISION IN APPEAL NO. CA/ABJ/145/2026: SENATOR DAVID MARK V HON. NAFIU BALA GOMBE & ORS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received:
A letter from the law firm of Suleiman Usman SAN & Co. dated 16th March, 2026, titled:
“RE: NOTICE OF PENDING PROCEEDINGS BEFORE THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT AND CAUTION AGAINST ANY PURPORTED RECOGNITION OF MR NAFIU BALA GOMBE AS ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC)” written on behalf of concerned stakeholders within the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
A letter from the law firm of Summit Law Chambers also dated 16th March 2026 titled:
“DEMAND FOR ENFORCEMENT OF THE ORDERS MADE BY THE COURT OF APPEAL, ABUJA DIVISION IN APPEAL NO: CA/ABJ/145/2026: SENATOR DAVID MARK V HON. NAFIU BALA GOMBE & 4 ORS” written on behalf of Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe.
While the letter from Suleiman Usman SAN & Co urged the Commission not to recognise Mr Nafiu Bala Gombe as acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on account of the pending Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025: Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe v. ADC & 4 Ors. before the Federal High Court, Abuja, where the question of the leadership of the Party (ADC) is presently being contested, the letter from Summit Law Chambers, on the other hand, attached the certified True Copy of the Judgment of the Court of Appeal in Suit No. CA/ABJ/145/2026: Senator David Mark v Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe & Ors and requested the Commission to enforce the judgement of the Court of Appeal, including:
Ceasing recognition of Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary respectively of ADC;
Removing their names from the Commission’s portal; and
Refraining from dealing with or recognising any actions taken by them in respect of the party in line with the preservation orders made by the Court of Appeal.
Subsequently, by another letter on the same subject matter dated 27th March, 2026, Summit Law Chambers alleged that the Commission had acted in disobedience of the Court of Appeal’s Orders by:
i. Inviting Senator David Mark’s group to a political parties’ meeting held on Tuesday, 24th March, 2026; and
ii. Monitoring a purported National Executive Committee meeting of that group.
The solicitors (Summit Law Chambers) further drew the attention of the Commission to the Motion Ex-Parte and Motion on Notice filed by their client on 15th December, 2025, seeking to prevent the 1st Defendant (ADC) from holding any convention, congress, conference, or meeting and to stop INEC from attending, monitoring, observing or recognising any activities of the ADC. They accordingly requested INEC to invalidate the NEC meeting held by Senator David Mark's group on 25th March, 2026, remove the name of Senator David Mark's group from the INEC portal, stop recognising or acknowledging correspondence from them until the determination of the pending suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja and allow Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe to take over the affairs of ADC pending the determination of the case, and that INEC should respect the orders of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026.
ORDERS OF THE COURT OF APPEAL
In its judgement delivered on 12th March, 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed the interlocutory appeal by Senator David Mark and made amongst others, the following Orders:
“Finally, it is necessary to make preservatory orders to ensure that the subject matter of the dispute pending before the trial court is not prejudiced as Courts have inherent powers to control and regulate proceedings to ensure justice...

I read some of the arguments under my previous post about President Tinubu’s political leadership and control of Lagos State many years after leaving office as governor.
Take Ogun State, for instance. It is one of the states in Southwest that has produced president, former president Olusegun Obasanjo. After leaving office as President of Nigeria, does Obasanjo control Ogun State politics the way Tinubu controls Lagos? Can anyone confidently say that a candidate outside Obasanjo’s political circle cannot win an election in Ogun State? The answer is no.
When Sen Oshiomhole and Gov. Obaseki fell out in Edo State, Obaseki left the APC for the PDP and still won his reelection against Oshiomhole’s preferred candidate. In Kano State, despite the fallout between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, Ganduje did not lose his re-election; he won, along with his National Assembly members. In Sokoto State, Tambuwal also did not lose his reelection despite his fallout with Senator Wamakko.
But Lagos State is different.
In Lagos, you cannot win an election if you are not in Tinubu’s political camp. Since he left office as governor, the opposition has never ruled Lagos State. It has always been his party. This clearly shows that he has firm control over Lagos State politics. Unlike other states, you cannot exit his camp, fight him politically, and still succeed in Lagos.
In Lagos, regardless of your tribe or background, once you reside in the state and align with Tinubu’s political structure, you are eligible to be elected at any time.
Of course, no one achieves this alone. Tinubu’s uniqueness lies in his wisdom in bringing together all political actors in Lagos State. Politics is about interests, and he has mastered the art of managing competing interests while still retaining loyalty. That loyalty exists because he is also loyal to those within the structure.
He managed the system in such a way that no governor after him single handedly decides who gets tickets for political positions. Decisions are made collectively, the same way governors themselves emerge. He understands that this is where division usually begins. When decisions come from the same table that produced everyone, no one goes against it. That is why Lagos has remained one political house till today.
No other political leader in Nigeria has exercised this level of influence over state politics long after leaving office the way Tinubu has. To build this level of trust in Nigerian politics, immense sacrifices must have been made.
You may not be everything in Nigerian politics, but to be like Tinubu is the ultimate achievement. I know that no one reigns forever, but for now, he stands out above the rest.
The man should write a book and title it "Political Interest Management."
