I’ve got a new report w/ @AkhilVik recommending AI Neutrality. Anthropic, OpenAI, Google control ~90% of AI model API revenues. They also compete with their customers, creating unavoidable conflicts of interest and opportunities to abuse power. https://t.co/MPPD684cbX
New poll from @TheArgumentMag today shows nearly 30% of young people believe AI could replace them in their job in the next 5 years... @lxeagle17 reports.
SCOOP: The House tax bill includes a carve out sought behind the scenes by a $75 billion private credit giant
The firm is owned by billionaire brothers Lawrence & David Golub, who have given $2 million in campaign contributions since 2020
The provision, an exemption to a global minimum tax related to the Virgin Islands, will cost the US close to $1 billion
Experts of the left & right tell me they are baffled by the public policy purpose of the change & worry it will fuel profit shifting out of the US
Golub's affiliate paid lobbyists +$500K to get the exemption from Congress, which also enjoyed support from the Virgin Islands government
New report from me and @Groundwork on Trump’s broken promise to lower prices on day one. Instead, he has chosen to put the country on the path to stagflation despite plenty of warning that his campaign tariff promises could wreck the economy
Direct File let people file their taxes for free.
The Trump administration plans to end the program.
A big gift to TurboTax and H&R Block. Both spent years tricking people by dishonestly claiming their services were free.

This is a totally nonsensical set of statements.
JP Morgan alone spends about 30x what the IRS does on IT modernization annually
(And serves fewer people of course, since IRS deals with every household and business every year.)
@BBKogan And even if the cuts are to taxpayer services instead, they're making it harder for Americans to file taxes.
Returning to the pre-IRA 30 min wait times for help as we hit peak filing season is not very efficient IMO!
JUST IN: USDA says it accidentally fired several officials working on bird flu.
"We are working to swiftly rectify the situation and rescind those letters," a spokesperson says.
This is how DOGE is making our government *less* efficient. Firing the people who conduct the benefit-cost analysis of transportation grants will cause worse decisions. It's penny wise, pound foolish. Their salaries are tiny compared to what they can do to deliver cost savings.
We’ve got to do better comms around the federal worker purge. We can’t stop at fired workers. It has to be about what that means for folks across the country. No one inspecting your baby’s food, ensuring you aren’t scammed by your lender, or forcing the wealthy pay their taxes.
🚨🚨BIG SCOOP: Musk’s DOGE Teen Was Fired By Cybersecurity Firm for Leaking Company Secrets
Edward Coristine posted online that he had retained access to the firm’s servers. Now he has access to sensitive government information.

But most importantly, I think it would require taking on some additional level of risk—and allowing that, to move fast, we have to accept that we might not always get it right.
Really enjoyed this fascinating piece by @pahlkadot in the NYT on policy implementation today—a subject that’s too often overlooked. But I don’t think DOGE is the answer even if liberals could be the ones to helm it. Long and wonky thread TK!
