Semasa perbicaraan, Ahli Patologi Forensik, Elizabeth Mooney memberitahu mahkamah Cleveland bahawa kanak-kanak akan mengalami kebimbangan perpisahan yang paling melampau antara sembilan dan 18 bulan.

Beliau menceritakan hari-hari terakhir Jailyn yang perit : “Kesakitan dan penderitaan yang ditanggungnya bukan sahaja berjam-jam, bukan berhari-hari, malah mungkin seminggu,” kata Mooney sambil menahan sebak.

"Perasaan ditinggalkan selama berhari-hari ditambah dengan kesakitan kelaparan dan kehausan yang melampau adalah sejenis penderitaan yang saya tidak fikir mana-mana daripada kita dapat memahami sepenuhnya," kata beliau.

Wanita ini dijatuhkan hukuman penjara seumur hidup.
