So This Happened (EP 437) reviews: Nigerian passport ranks 181st in IziVisa index, with access to 24 destinations
Nigeria’s passport has been ranked 181st out of 196 countries in the latest IziVisa Passport Ranking Index, with visa-free access to just 24 destinations. The report has renewed concerns about international travel opportunities for Nigerians, especially when compared with other African countries that rank ahead of Nigeria.
The ranking also raises questions about the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport, with current fees at ₦100,000 for a five-year, 32-page passport and ₦200,000 for a 10-year, 64-page version. Although rankings use different methodologies and Nigerians can access other destinations through visas on arrival or electronic visas, concerns remain about the country’s global mobility and diplomatic relationships.

ARISE NEWS STANDS BY OUR REPORT ON INEC REGISTER IN LAGOS
On Thursday, What's Trending with Ojy Okpe reported that the INEC Preliminary Register of Voters was not openly displayed for public scrutiny at several registration areas across Alimosho and Shomolu in Lagos as required by Section 19 of the Electoral Act.
INEC Lagos State issued a press statement categorically denying our report. We take note and we respect the commission's right to respond, but we stand by our report.
Here is what our independent on-ground verification found:
📍 The INEC portal on Wednesday October 14th displayed this message:
"There are currently no preliminary registers to display"
📍 At registration areas in Alimosho including Abati Primary School the register was only available on request between 9AM and 3PM
📍 At Gbagada Grammar School, Pedro Primary School In Shomolu and St George's Primary School in Ikoyi officials only consulted the register for individual name checks not open public scrutiny.
Every Nigerian deserves full and open access to the voters' register not access by request access by right!
Arise News remains committed to responsible accurate and independent journalism. Always.

INEC’s refusal to publish the voters’ register online is deliberate.
They know that people like us will scrutinise the data, identify irregularities, and ask difficult questions.
But there is another troubling possibility: keeping the register away from public scrutiny preserves its commercial value for those who may be willing to pay for access.
Once the data is publicly available, that advantage disappears.
Is INEC protecting the integrity of the voters’ register, or protecting a monopoly over access to it?

BOLA AND EBOLA: WHERE DID THE ₦10 BILLION GO? — ATIKU
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Tinubu administration’s failure to account for the ₦10 billion approved for Ebola preparedness, saying the confirmed case in Abuja has exposed a dangerous breakdown in the government’s response. He also warned against using the outbreak to suppress political activity and discourage Nigerians from voting.
In a statement by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said:
“Ebola is a grave public health threat. Nigerians deserve urgent action, competent leadership and the truth. Instead, the first confirmed case in Abuja has exposed unanswered questions about preparedness, surveillance and the protection of health workers. Tinubu must account for the ₦10 billion he said would be released immediately in June.
“Where is the money? Publish the amount actually disbursed, the dates of payment, every contract awarded, every recipient and every item delivered. If the money was not released, Tinubu must explain why he announced emergency funding that never reached the people responsible for protecting Nigerians. A press statement cannot replace an audit.
“The timeline is damning. The patient arrived in Nigeria on October 5, developed symptoms on October 7 and sought care at a private hospital on October 11. The government did not confirm the case publicly until October 20, nine days after she sought care. During that critical period, 44 close contacts were left unmonitored, while private health workers faced the case without adequate protective equipment. This is a failure of preparedness with potentially grave consequences.
“The government must disclose what happened at every stage. What travel history and exposure screening were conducted? What follow-up began when the patient developed symptoms? When were the 44 contacts first reached and monitored? Why were frontline staff left without the protection they needed? Nigerians deserve answers, and those responsible for these failures must be held accountable.
“In June, Tinubu announced a Presidential Task Force chaired by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. Today, Nigerians must ask whether political appointees have been allowed to overshadow the medical experts who should lead this response. The NCDC, epidemiologists, doctors and public health professionals must be in charge, with the authority and resources to act. Political titles cannot trace contacts, equip hospitals or save lives.
“Nigerians are already battling the economic hardship created by Tinubu’s policies. Now the government’s failure to prepare and respond threatens to deepen public anxiety and disrupt movement, livelihoods and economic activity. The people must not pay twice for the same failure: first through hardship, then through a bungled emergency response. Both caused by Bola.
“I am also alarmed by confirmed information that the Minister of Health’s press conference tomorrow is intended to discourage Nigerians from attending campaign rallies and, ultimately, from voting. It is ridiculous that the same Minister of Health, whose entire ministry was funded with N35 million disbursement in 2025 appropriation and was not involved in the Ebola prevention programme is now being promoted to make health emergency announcements.
FROM PARIS TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: NIGERIA’S FUTURE IN FOCUS
Following our dialogue at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) office in Paris yesterday, we made a one-hour stop at a Nigerian restaurant, where we met and interacted with fellow Nigerians before departing for Strasbourg. We arrived at 12:15 a.m. today, Tuesday, 20 October.
By 9:30 a.m., we were at the European Parliament, where we held a series of constructive meetings with Members of the European Parliament representing various committees. Our engagements continued until 6:00 p.m.
Throughout these discussions, I reiterated that Africa is a continent of immense potential, the world’s second-largest continent by both land area and population, richly endowed with natural resources and blessed with a vast, youthful population capable of driving production, innovation and economic transformation.
I called for stronger European support for Africa’s development, particularly Nigeria’s, through partnerships that promote good governance, strengthen democratic institutions and protect the integrity of our electoral processes.
Africa needs leaders with the vision, competence and integrity to unite our people, confront corruption decisively, tackle insecurity and reduce inequality. These are essential foundations for building prosperous, stable and inclusive societies.
Africa must not be seen merely as a continent of needs, but as a continent of opportunities, solutions and possibilities. Nigeria, in particular, has the human and natural resources to play a significant role in global development.
Our future must be built on responsible leadership, productive partnerships and a shared commitment to human dignity and prosperity.
A better Nigeria is POssible. A New Nigeria is POssible! -PO

Contrary to Joash Amupitan’s declaration; ELECTORAL LAW GIVES CANDIDATES THE RIGHT TO RECORD, MAKE A VIDEO OF FORM EC8A AND HAVE THEIR OWN SITUATION ROOM.
“We have eighteen candidates. They are free under the law to have their IReV,….situation room. They are free under the law to publicize, to report what INEC had officially under section twenty-five, because section twenty-five is a creation of an office, a distinction to be made between declaration of a winner and announcement of result.
Who now says that result that have been legally, officially announced by the presiding officer, that the party agent that are entitled to have that result cannot send it to their situation room? Who says that?”
