Building Knowledge. Building Resilience. 🍠🌱
We just concluded Day 1 of the HeR YaSS Practical Training on Climate Smart Agriculture and Storage Techniques.
The fellows explored how changing weather patterns affect yam production and storage, the causes of post harvest losses, and the importance of climate smart storage.
The training moved from learning to practice, with hands on sessions on climate smart yam barn construction, including site selection, ventilation, roofing and storage platforms, as well as proper yam sorting, arrangement, spacing and storage.
We also presented the baseline assessment findings to the fellows, helping ground the training in the realities identified among yam farmers.
A day of learning, practical skills and shared knowledge as we work towards more resilient yam storage solutions for young women farmers in Gwagwalada.

Functional GBV Desk Project Supported by @riseupforgirls
DEAN Initiative is strengthening community action to end violence against women and girls through the VAPP-Local GBV Champions Training, bringing together 30 Community GBV Champions from Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali Area Councils.
The two-day training equips Champions with practical skills in SMART advocacy, policy advocacy, community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, GBV awareness and evidence generation preparing them to take community voices forward in the advocacy for functional GBV Desks at the Area Council level.
This is a step towards ensuring that the protections provided by the VAPP Act are translated into accessible, responsive services for women and girls at the local level.

Nigeria’s classrooms are full of curious, creative young minds, yet our education system still struggles to move beyond rote memorization. While national policy increasingly emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and other transferable skills, everyday classroom practice remains largely exam-driven.
DEAN’s new teacher survey highlights a persistent and consequential gap: teachers recognize the importance of these 21st-century skills, but outdated methods, limited training, and structural constraints prevent effective delivery.
The message is clear: education is no longer about what students know, but what they can do with what they know. Unlocking Nigeria’s potential requires stronger teacher support, intentional investment, and a decisive shift from teaching for tests to teaching for life.
