My college economics professor taught us never to purchase AppleCare. Two reasons:

1. You should only buy insurance if:

The % probability of a claim × the dollar value of what the insurance saves you is GREATER than the cost of insurance.

Take a $1,499 iPhone 18 Pro Max:
- AppleCare costs $300 for two years
- Screen repair: $379 without it, $29 with it
- Major damage: $899 without it, $99 with it
- Theft or loss: $1,499 to replace, $149 with it

For AppleCare to break even, I'd need an ~86% chance of breaking the screen over the two years. Or a ~38% chance of major damage. Or a ~22% chance of theft or loss.

Even if I crack the screen once, AppleCare only saves me about $50 after including the premiums.

2. Buying insurance increases the probability of a moral hazard.

i.e.
Without insurance, you use a case, avoid precarious ledges, and keep a tighter grip on your phone.

With AppleCare, you may go caseless, toss it around, or worry less about losing it.

That increases your probability of breaking your phone and making a claim.

So overall, don't get AppleCare ;)

🚨 BIG CHANGES coming to online shopping in India!

Govt notified new E-Commerce Rules — effective 1 Jan 2027

Here's what changes

1️⃣ No more fake discounts — "prior price" = lowest price in last 30 days, must be shown

2️⃣ Search results can't be manipulated to mislead you

3️⃣ Sponsored/paid listings must be clearly labeled

4️⃣ Dark patterns (fake urgency, hidden costs, forced subscriptions) — platforms must self-audit yearly + show compliance certificate

5️⃣ Seller info (identity, return policy, warranty) must be disclosed

6️⃣ Imported products must show country of origin + importer details

7️⃣ Your data can't be used without clear consent

8️⃣ Complaint copy must be given to you when you file a grievance

📊 Why it matters: NCH got 17.7 lakh complaints in 2025 — 29% were e-commerce related

This is the biggest consumer protection shake-up for Indian e-commerce yet.
