That’s 0.78 hectare 1.92 acres. Not even two acres. And it is not one forest. It is two small parcels 500+ km apart: 0.65 ha in Alibag (Raigad) for a jetty, conveyor and approach road, and 0.13 ha in Amravati for an underground gas pipeline.

The Maharashtra order is not a blank cheque. Forest staff must have unhindered access; block them and the diversion can be cancelled.
Headlines stay in square feet because the number looks big. You could just as easily write 1.2 crore square inches and get the same outrage.

This entire “forest handover” is still under two acres, split across two districts, for a waterway terminal and a buried city-gas line with conditions attached. The rest is wording.
