@neil_chilson @GottesmanJosh @WillOremus @GiladEdelman Fair point, but the entire internet isn't serving up user-generated content in the same way as FB and that experience keeps people on FB/social media. Yes, there are dozens of social media sites, but only 5-6 of them have the requisite content and/or network effects.

TV, also ad-supported, is predicated on maximizing engagement (see Fox) and there isn't any regulation on how much TV you can watch. However, unlike social media, there are many more alternatives if you don't like what you're seeing.
