Another excellent opportunity to reaffirm the strong and friendly relations between #Albania and #Saudi Arabia and to explore ways of further expanding our cooperation across a range of sectors. There is significant untapped potential in our partnership, particularly in trade, investment, energy, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, which can bring tangible benefits to both our countries and our peoples.

Albania strongly condemns the #Iranian attacks against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in the #Arabian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia. We reiterate the importance of restraint, dialogue, and diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration of the situation and to contribute to regional and global peace, security, and stability.

I wished #Ambassador Almadhi every success in his mission and reaffirmed our readiness to work closely together to further strengthen the ties between our two countries.

We reaffirmed the strong partnership between #Albania and #Bulgaria and our shared commitment to further expanding cooperation in key areas such as the economy, energy, tourism, and connectivity. In this context, we underscored the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including through parliamentary friendship groups, as a valuable instrument for strengthening bilateral ties.

We also discussed Albania’s EU integration path, the importance of continued support from EU Member States, and the strategic significance of the #European future of the #WesternBalkans for the stability, security, and prosperity of both the region and the European Union.

Finally, we highlighted the important role of the minorities in our respective countries in fostering people-to-people connections and further strengthening the cultural, historical, and human ties that bring our nations closer together.

Our discussions highlighted the importance of further deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in key areas such as energy, infrastructure and strategic connectivity. In this context, we underscored the significance of #Corridor VIII as a vital link between the Adriatic and Black Sea regions, with substantial potential to enhance trade, mobility and sustainable economic development across #SoutheastEurope.

We also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, security, good-neighbourly relations and the European future of the #WesternBalkans. Albania highly values Bulgaria’s consistent support for our EU accession process and its continued advocacy for a credible enlargement policy.

We further highlighted the important role of national minorities in our respective countries as bridges of friendship and cooperation.

Oh dear, you people are really shameless!

Thank you anyway for your concern about the intelligence of the Albanian people.

It would be far more convincing if it came from representatives of a regime that does not routinely hammer its own citizens through censorship, intimidation, internet shutdowns, and the suppression of dissent.

As for sovereignty, Albania does not take lessons on sovereignty from a government whose operatives were caught carrying out cyberattacks against Albanian public services and institutions, leading Albania to sever diplomatic relations with Iran.

You quote Albanian protesters chanting in the streets. Good. That is called democracy. In Albania people are free to protest against their government, criticize their Prime Minister, demand justice, and call for elections without fear of imprisonment.

Can the same be said for the people you claim to speak for?

And it is particularly telling that you have suddenly discovered such a profound concern for protesters in Tirana while the blood of tens of thousands of your own people stains the conscience of your regime, while countless others continue to suffer persecution, repression, and imprisonment, and while dozen of millions remain trapped in conditions that belong more to the Middle Ages than to the twenty-first century.

The Albanian people are indeed intelligent enough to distinguish truth from falsehood. That is precisely why they can tell the difference between a democratic argument and propaganda. Your bots, your fake profiles, and your deepfake videos may add to the general digital confusion the venom of your hateful regime, but they will get nowhere, because whatever our differences might be among Albanians, we are all clear and united in the view that any type of regime that keeps its own people in darkness and poverty is the enemy of our way of living, disguised as concern. And yours is the worse, a terrorist state by definition.

📍Sofia -- Pleased to particpate at the Ministerial meeting of #SEECP, marking also the 30th anniversary of the process.

What began as a genuine aspiration has, over the years, evolved into a lasting and impactful project. Today, it stands as the region’s leading political forum, fostering dialogue, building trust, and strengthening good neighbourly relations. In doing so, it has demonstrated that regional ownership, mutual respect, and a shared vision can contribute meaningfully to greater stability, prosperity, and integration across our region.

Economic cooperation and regional integration must remain at the core of our collective efforts. The Berlin Process, the Growth Plan, the Common Regional Market, and broader connectivity initiatives, including #CorridorVIII and other strategic projects, continue to offer tangible opportunities to deepen economic integration, enhance competitiveness, and improve the lives of our citizens.

Our #European accession path has entered its most dynamic and consequential phase. Our objective remains ambitious yet realistic: to conclude accession negotiations by 2027 and achieve full membership in the European Union by 2030.

A successful merit-based enlargement process can only succeed if it functions credibly and consistently on both sides. This understanding was reaffirmed last week in Tivat, where EU and Western Balkan leaders agreed on the need to inject renewed political momentum and strategic vision into the enlargement agenda. We stand ready, fully committed to delivering on our responsibilities and advancing the reforms necessary to achieve this goal.

Albania will continue to invest in #regional cooperation. While the progress achieved thus far is undeniable, vulnerabilities remain. If left unaddressed, they risk undermining stability, slowing development, and creating space for external influences that do not align with our shared European aspirations. For this reason, deeper cooperation and stronger interconnections are not merely a regional imperative; they are a strategic investment in the security, stability, and prosperity of the region and Europe as a whole.

Ajo që nisi si një aspiratë e sinqertë është shndërruar ndër vite në një projekt të qëndrueshëm dhe me ndikim të rëndësishëm. Sot, SEECP qëndron si forumi politik kryesor i rajonit, duke nxitur dialogun, ndërtuar besimin dhe forcuar marrëdhëniet e fqinjësisë së mirë. Në këtë mënyrë, ai ka dëshmuar se përgjegjësia rajonale, respekti i ndërsjellë dhe një vizion i përbashkët mund të kontribuojnë në mënyrë domethënëse për më shumë stabilitet, mirëqenie dhe integrim në të gjithë rajonin tonë.

Bashkëpunimi ekonomik dhe integrimi rajonal duhet të mbeten në qendër të përpjekjeve tona të përbashkëta. But perhaps the most revealing detail is also the simplest one.

A remarkable number of reports do not even distinguish between an island and a private piece of land on the mainland.

The protest itself concerns the latter.

Not the former.

In fact, there is currently no significant public controversy in Albania regarding the island itself.

Yet countless articles, posts and commentaries merge the two into a single narrative, creating confusion where precision should exist and emotion where facts should prevail.

Disagreement is legitimate.

Criticism is legitimate.

Questions are legitimate.

Environmental concerns are legitimate.

Public scrutiny is legitimate.

What is not legitimate is replacing facts with assumptions, assumptions with certainties and certainties with collective outrage.

What is not legitimate is treating allegations as facts, speculation as evidence and fears as conclusions.

And when highly respected media outlets stop making basic distinctions, when they no longer separate what exists from what does not, what is proposed from what is approved, what is being debated from what is merely imagined, they do not simply misinform.

They contribute to the erosion of reality itself.

And that should concern every democracy.

Because this is how trust in institutions is gradually destroyed.

This is how trust in mainstream politics is corroded.

This is how the ground is prepared for demagogues, charlatans and professional merchants of outrage.

This is how calls for the destruction of political opponents become normalised.

This is how cries of “traitors”, “enemies of the people” and even demands for death and vengeance become amplified and legitimised.

This is how the old ghosts of fanaticism return wearing new digital clothes.

This is how fascism reinvents itself for the age of algorithms.

Albania will survive this.

We will continue our journey.

We will continue transforming our country into a shining destination for high-end tourism, a stronger democracy and a proud member of the European family.

But this story should matter far beyond Albania.

Because others may see in it a glimpse of what is coming.

We live in a time when democratic societies are investing billions to shield themselves from long-range missiles, drones and external threats.

And that is wise.

But shielding our countries from missiles will mean very little if we fail to shield the souls of our countries and the minds of our young people from the industrial-scale manipulation, hatred and lies that arrive every day from a distance far shorter than any missile can travel:

The distance between a smartphone screen and a human mind.

Because if we lose that battle, we may eventually discover that we have protected our land borders while allowing the foundations of our democratic societies to collapse from within.

And then there may be very little left worth protecting at all.

To @CNN International and to all the endless media outlets, big and small, together with all the well-meaning content producers of Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and every other platform that now shapes the global conversation, I would very much wish to pass the following post:

As we speak, today’s protest has drawn roughly 2,000 participants. It is the lowest turnout so far, but even at its peak, participation never exceeded 8,000 people.

So how is it that what much of the world has seen over the past days appears so enormous, so dramatic, so overwhelming?

At some point, when the engineered digital hysteria of these days has passed and emotions have cooled, the democratic world should take a closer look at how the gap between reality and its representation became so vast.

Not merely as a matter of this particular case, but as a symptom of something much larger.

How could a tiny country become global news for reasons so disconnected from the reality on the ground?

How could a local protest involving a few thousand people be transformed into an international spectacle?

How could assumptions become facts, narratives become verdicts, and speculation become accepted truth before the basic facts were even established?

And perhaps most importantly, what does it say about our information ecosystem when perception can travel around the world faster than reality itself?

Because the reality is that there is no project yet.

There is no building permit yet.

There is no construction yet.

There is not even a final design yet.

There is only a vision and a plan: to transform Albania into the most attractive high-end tourism destination in this part of the world, while creating a net positive environmental development that, according to the current vision, would ultimately result in approximately 25% more trees and green space than exists today, alongside measurable improvements across multiple biodiversity indicators.

The ambition is not merely to build.

The ambition is to demonstrate that development and environmental enhancement can go hand in hand.

That is precisely why some of the world’s leading experts in ecology, biodiversity, landscape architecture, environmental engineering and sustainable tourism are working on these concepts and parameters.

Whether they succeed or fail is a matter for future assessment, science, public scrutiny and transparent debate.

But presenting as an environmental catastrophe something that does not yet exist, has not yet been designed, has not yet been permitted, and whose stated objective is in fact to produce positive environmental outcomes, is not a serious contribution to public discussion.

And yet, from this simple reality emerged a hurricane of digital hysteria, apocalyptic headlines, manufactured outrage and sweeping conclusions presented as established facts.

Along the way came deepfakes, manipulated images, fabricated claims, coordinated amplification, anonymous networks and online behaviour that bears many of the characteristics of the hybrid information warfare that increasingly shapes public debate across democratic societies.

Even more remarkably, social media platforms recorded an explosion in activity around this topic, with Albanian-language engagement increasing several-fold within just a few days. A significant part of this sudden surge appears to have been driven not by an organic expansion of public participation, but by the rapid proliferation of newly created profiles, anonymous accounts and pages with little or no identifiable history, raising legitimate questions about artificial amplification and the manufacturing of digital momentum.

📍Brussels -- Always a valuable opportunity to meet and exchange views with Members of the @Europarl_EN on issues related to EU enlargement and the broader dynamics shaping Europe’s political agenda.

I was particularly pleased to meet with Albania’s Rapporteur in the European Parliament, Andreas Schieder @SCHIEDER, as well as with Swedish MPs Arba Kokalari @ArbaKokalari and @adnandibrani, both of Albanian descent and outstanding examples of successful integration, civic engagement, and public service in open, democratic, and inclusive European societies.

I thanked the Rapporteur for his excellent work in leading the process on the report on #Albania, adopted last month in the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, @EP_ForeignAff.

It was also an occasion to recognize, beyond their work and contribution as MPs, the personal and professional journey of Arba and Adnan, which reflects not only the valuable contribution that Albanians make across Europe, but also the opportunities that free and democratic societies offer to individuals who are committed to hard work, participation, and excellence. They stand as a powerful testament to the strong human ties that connect #Albania with #Europe and to the positive role that #diaspora communities play in strengthening mutual understanding, cooperation, and shared European values. Their success is a source of pride for #Albanians everywhere and a reminder that the European project is ultimately about people, opportunities, and the ability to contribute fully to the societies we call home.

Our discussion focused on the state of play of Albania’s EU accession process, the priorities and work ahead in the ongoing negotiations, and the shared objective of maintaining the current momentum of #enlargement. We also underlined the important role of the European Parliament in supporting a credible, merit-based enlargement process and in advancing the European perspective of the #WesternBalkans.

At a time when the European Union is increasingly recognizing the strategic importance of enlargement, continued engagement with the @Europarl_EN remains essential for strengthening political support and building a broader consensus and in communicating the transformative impact of a merit-based EU accession process.

📍Brussels -- Very good exchange today with Ms. Els Van Hoof, Chair of the Chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee, focused on the opportunities for further strengthening the excellent relations between #Albania and #Belgium. 🇦🇱🇧🇪

I conveyed Albania’s sincere appreciation for Belgium’s continued support for EU enlargement and, in particular, for our EU accession process, as well as for the constructive bilateral cooperation that has steadily deepened over the years.

Our discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong and regular political dialogue, including through enhanced #parliamentary exchanges, anchored in our shared commitment to a stronger Europe and guided by a practical, results-oriented approach. Parliamentary diplomacy has an important role to play in fostering mutual understanding, supporting reform processes, and bringing our institutions and societies closer together.

We exchanged views on the renewed momentum of EU enlargement and the strategic importance of the #WesternBalkans for Europe’s security, stability, and prosperity. In this context, I underlined Albania’s determination to continue advancing its reform agenda and to move forward decisively in the accession negotiations.

Grateful to Ms. Van Hoof for her openness, engagement, and leadership. We look forward to further advancing this constructive dialogue and translating it into concrete initiatives that will strengthen the relations between Albania and Belgium. 🤝

Theksova rëndësinë e #dialogut ndërmjet Kosovës dhe Serbisë si rruga e vetme drejt normalizimit të marrëdhënieve, konsolidimit të paqes së qëndrueshme dhe përparimit në procesin e integrimit evropian, duke nënvizuar njëkohësisht nevojën për përgjegjësi dhe llogaridhënie ndaj çdo veprimi që cenon sgurinë e Kosovës dhe stabilitetin rajonal.

Riafirmova mbështetjen e palëkundur të #Shqipërisë për Kosovën, në çdo kohë dhe në çdo aspekt, si për forcimin e demokracisë, institucioneve dhe zhvillimit të saj, ashtu edhe për konsolidimin e rolit të Kosovës si faktor i paqes, sigurisë dhe stabilitetit në rajon.
