A petition to get the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to protect doctors under threat of harm for their pro-vaccination views. https://t.co/8zxpP0BPnw My colleague @DrGorfinkel is the brains behind the petition. Triggered by the experience of @nilikm
Last week I discussed how anti-vaxx disinformation is highly organized, well funded, and designed to prey on our deepest fears. False statements linking stillbirths to vaccines are: a) not evidence based; b) weaponized to scare us; c) unimaginably cruel.
The ICU team at @HamHealthSci has allowed us to show Canadians what Covid's Wave 4 looks like. Younger, otherwise healthy adults in their 30's and 40's. All unvaccinated. Some asked to get the shot while being intubated, but are told it's too late. Tonight on @CTVNationalNews
So sad & worrisome😥
Neurosurgeries & heart surgeries cancelled due to lack of ICU capacity.
“During the 4th wave, 90% of #COVID patients admitted to #Hamilton General have been unvaccinated — that number goes up to 99% in the ICU.”

Where should the anger be directed?
Who is benefitting from disinformation & confusion, leading to slower vaccination rates, straining the healthcare system, continued death/disease, & preventing societal & economic recovery?

Today's protests outside hospitals & the continued refusal of the Ontario government to designate hospitals as safe zones are a slap in the face of every health worker who has worked so hard to save lives during this pandemic.
Sept 13: Cases/Hosp/ICU by vaccination status *PER MILLION*
Cases - Relative risk: 7.8x unvaccinated to vaccinated
"Due to incomplete weekend reporting, vaccination status data for hospital & ICU admissions is not updated on Sundays & Mondays."
Yes, you have the right to protest. But if your protest leads to the obstruction of care for those who are sick or the abuse of health workers who care for the sick, then you've more than lost your way...Please. Be respectful of hospitals. They are an oasis of care & compassion.
If you don’t know the difference between a Yellow Star pinned on Jews sent to death camps and vaccine certificates needed to eat in restaurants, you need remedial history lessons.
The troubling Nazi-fication of #COVID19 discourse

Hamilton General cancelled all cardiac surgeries for an entire day because it needed nurses and beds in the intensive-care unit for unvaccinated #COVID patients, prompting @HamHealthSci to warn unvaccinated are straining hospital resources.

@AlykhanAbdulla Agree. Peaceful protest. Avoid putting others at risk by blocking essential routes. Why not protest at Queens park? Why in front of the hospitals? Like hospitals have control over legislation. Protesting by twisting the arms to get desired effect is not right...
I see a lot of people putting stock in the VAERS database and I'm here to remind you that it once accepted "Becoming The Incredible Hulk" as a side effect of influenza vaccine.

No healthcare worker should have to fear going to work just because of hateful anti-vaxxer protests outside their workplace. Where is Toronto police with all their horses, drones utilized to uproot people from encampments? Why do antivaxxers enjoy so much privilege & protection?
Anti-vaccine protesters will be congregating at hospitals in 10 provinces again on Monday.
While I can't understand what motivates people to disrupt the healing of the sick and the safety of the healers, my hope is that the authorities will not tolerate any form of harassment.
As host of @cbcwhitecoat, I'm supposed to be neutral. But I'm also an ER MD at a downtown Toronto hospital. I am so angry at the people who think it's okay to harass healthcare workers just outside where they care for sick people. Just stop it before a patient or HCW gets hurt.
@dockaurG @SunetraGupta Just curious, if one does not get infected, can you transmit the virus still? Cant Vaccines prevent infections and reduce severity of illness ?
So enough is enough.
Want to protest - go to your legislature, not in front of hospitals, where you are demoralizing us further.
The irony is not lost on us that some of you may well be the ones we will be treating in the coming weeks.
