Homeless shelter plans have been shot down in KC in part due to NIMBYism. But several people in the Lykins neighborhood say a shelter would be better than what’s happening in their area, where people living outside have taken over vacant residential lots.

KCPD was brought in to investigate two fatal shootings by Kansas City, KS, police. I filed records requests for the case files via Missouri's Sunshine law. Now, KCK is suing KCPD in an effort to stop them from turning over the files.

KC made a $200k down payment for pallet homes for the unhoused 3+ years ago. A few weeks ago, I asked what happened w/that money or materials. They said they had not put in the order. Now, they say the homes are coming, but won't be used for the homeless.

The more suburban region of #KCMO called "the Northland", is often portrayed as a conservative bastion. But Tuesday's election results paint a clearer picture about this region.
The southern part of the Northland is lower-income, more diverse *and* votes more progressively (1/9)
And with change, what @Brizzyc teaches should be considered bedrock. Her community engagement course should be required in all j-school curriculum.
