I've been thinking a lot about how my fieldwork situation has been a great lang emersion experience and enjoyable as a result

but I also am reminded of something I've heard repeated from some (often older) prominent linguists: "you can work on a lang you can't speak!"

We’ve had this issue in our sign lab, where hearing non signers come to a meeting as a co-author on a project out to hear a paper discussion, but UT’s interpreting policy prevents hearing signers from signing and having voice interpreting. So we are forced to speak
