You are paying twice for a service that has never been fully provided.
Today’s announcement by OFWAT should not focus solely on where investment is or isn’t goingit highlights the overarching failure of the privatised water model.
OFWAT is allowing water companies, which have exploited the public since privatisation, to increase your bills despite the fact that you’ve already paid for these companies to properly maintain and treat everything in the sewage network.
There is widespread illegality across the nation that remains unprosecuted. Meanwhile, these companies are making eye-watering profits, their debt levels are skyrocketing and now it’s you who has the burden placed on you just before Christmas.
There has essentially been no shareholder investment in the water industry since privatisation; it has been funded by you, the customer. Over £60 billion of debt has been placed on the companies, despite them being handed over debt-free, purely to pay shareholder dividends. Additionally, over £80 billion of your money has been distributed to shareholders.
Today, you should be angry. Today, you should recognise the failure of privatisation and demand an end to the profiteering of our water resources. It is time to transition to the model used by 90% of the world—a publicly owned system that benefits the people and the environment, not shareholders. Some Scandinavian country’s have made it illegal to privatise water, and yet this government still thinks it’s a good idea. Maybe it’s because a monopolistic, profit-making sector with inadequate regulation exploits a country that’s foolish enough to privatise a basic human right.

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch just told viewers the post Brexit CPTPP trade deal she negotiated is “going to be amazing” & the trade deal we have with the EU “is working well!”
If you’ve had enough of this absolute boll**** going unchallenged RT these actual FACTS
It just gets worse and worse.
Water companies are utter cheats. And @10DowningStreet is protecting them instead of being brave and responsible by putting them into #PublicOwnership https://t.co/OCOdWetXTo
If you are as outraged by the state of our rivers, lakes & seas as I am please join me & thousands of others on SUNDAY 3RD NOV from 11am in central London for #MARCHFORCLEANWATER
Let’s reclaim our right to clean and abundant water for all people across the UK
@MarchforWater
Imagine Mr Jenrick’s shock when he finds out a study by Durham University has found the primary factor in the sky rocketing number of small boat crossings is the former Conservative governments oven ready Brexit deal
According to the report it was the then conservative Government’s decision to leave the EU without a returns agreement in place which has led to the skyrocketing number of dangerous small boat crossings
https://t.co/L8JuKw5DRi
The course of action Tory leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick is proposing - leaving the ECHR & creating our own Bill of Rights should his party be elected to government again pre-supposes we can actually trust the party proposing that course of action with our human rights in first place & when last in power they repeatedly tried to curtail our human rights under the existing convention we’re already apart of!
In fact - according to international Human Rights Watch - under the last government the UK was on course to make the list of countries that abuse rather than protect human rights thanks to the Conservatives outright onslaught on the rights of its own citizens.
It’s easy to see why - during their time in office they passed new anti strike laws designed to rob millions of workers of their democratic right to strike, an Elections Act locked millions of people out of the electoral process - a blatant act of voter suppression & new laws stripped back our right to protest & limited our rights to judicial review - an affront to the very principles of fairness and government accountability - so please remember all this next time you here Jenrick or any politician say this👇
🚨Imagine the shock for those giving Jenrick a rapturous round of applause today when they find out leaving the ECHR could result in the UK’s trade deal with the EU being terminated because the convention is written into the 2020 Trade & Co-operation Agreement & leaving the ECHR would also breach the Good Friday Agreement which requires that the Convention be directly enforceable in Northern Ireland
🚨If like me you’ve had enough of UK news shows allowing Johnson to rewrite history RT this widely
If they can’t get the job done let’s damn well do it ourselves
I’ve been asked for my views on Tory leadership contender Robert Jenrick’s latest propaganda video
It’s absurd, inflammatory, divisive & complete & utter bull****
This is why..
“Britain is broken” says Nigel Farage during his conference speech today
Imagine his shock when he finds out that by almost every economic & financial measure the Brexit he championed has been disastrous for the UK
Jeez. Tory leadership candidate Robert Jenrick continues to repeat his message the government “should build more prisons & lock up career criminals for longer” to end the prisons crisis
Imagine his shock when someone tells him that after 14 years in government his party failed dismally on the former & their policy on the latter, combined with more than a decade of underfunding, inaction & neglect brought the entire justice system – our primary mechanism for dealing with crime - to its knees. I’m sure UK news shows will be pointing this out
Now we have Tory leadership candidate @JamesCleverly rushing around UK news shows criticizing the action the new labour government is taking on the prisons crisis. Imagine his shock when he finds out
• Early release was a Tory policy too - infact the conservatives released 10,000 prisoners early to ease the jail capacity crisis
• One month before the election was called the body representing 95% of prison governors in England & Wales were warning jails would run out of space within days putting the public at risk
• One week before he called the election then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was warned by senior civil servants that he was at risk of breaching his legal responsibilities if he failed to take action over the prison overcrowding crisis
That this mess is the result of fourteen years of neglect, inaction & underfunding by successive Conservative governments & all the Tory leadership candidates know it
@SkyNews@BBCNews@BBCBreakfast
Tory leadership favorite Robert Jenrick is touring UK News Shows telling viewers “we should leave the ECHR & replace it with a British Bill of Rights”
This argument is going to come up a lot in the coming months & years. I explain in this film why it’s A VERY BAD IDEA!
Shadow Home Secretary James Cleverly says Keir Starmer has erected a “huge ‘open’ sign on the white cliffs of Dover” after axing the #RwandaScheme
WHERE DO WE EVEN START WITH THIS BOLL****!
🚨Reform leader @Nigel_Farage believes two thirds of Brits would back joining Russia & Belarus as the only European countries outside the European Convention on Human Rights.
If you think he’s talking boll**** RT this to let him know
Let’s not forget that one month before the election was called the body representing 95% of prison governors in England & Wales were warning jails would run out of space within days putting the public at risk.
A week before he called the election Rishi Sunak was warned by senior civil servants that he was at risk of breaching his legal responsibilities if he failed to take action over the prison overcrowding crisis
What we are seeing is the result of fourteen years of neglect, inaction and underfunding by successive Conservative governments. I’m sure UK news shows will be pointing this out..
