On Wed, June 9 2010, five brothers gave their lives that others may live.
Capt David Wisniewski, Pilot / Weapons Officer
1Lt Joel Gentz, CRO
TSgt Michael Flores, PJ
SSgt David Smith, FE
SrA Benjamin White, PJ
This is their story:
Two #USAF#ACC#CAF#CSAR HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters (call signs Pedro 66 and Pedro 67) launched, day time, to rescue a critically injured Royal Marine near Forward Operating Base Jackson in the Sangin district, Helmand province, in southern Afghanistan.
Upon arriving on scene, both helos came under enemy fire. Pedro 67 initiated their approach to the take the wounded Marine, Pedro 66 (aircrew from the 66RQS, CRO from 58RQS at Nellis AFB, NV, both PJs from 48RQS at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ) provided mutual support airborne.
As Pedro 67 made their approach to the landing zone in the FOB, Pedro 66 was hit by enemy fire, critically damaging the tail rotor.
With a mortally damaged and increasingly uncontrollable aircraft, Captain Wisniewski was able to guide the aircraft away from the FOB, friendly troops and civilian houses on the ground, avoiding probable additional loss of life.
Immediately, Royal Marines of the 40 Commando's Charlie Company, their embedded USN Corpsman (Attached from USMC-Navy Corpsman to 40 Cdo as Charlie Company medic) along with Pedro 67, risking their own lives, rescued the survivors and secured the scene.
MSgt Aggie Aguilera (Aerial Gunner) and Capt Anthony Simone (Co-Pilot) survived with serious injuries. Both retired from the USAF and are continuing to fight the odds of healing, and thrive with their tremendous grit, resilience and incredible support of their families.

For the past 2 years, I’ve tweeted out the names of the fallen from the American war in Afghanistan. The 1st time was around the fall of Kabul. The 2nd around Memorial Day. I will start again on Friday at 5 pm ET. Many attach personals stories and photos. https://t.co/qCA0AWDFmn
We didn’t bat an eye at numbers like 150u product when reading the AF 3899 in our pts arriving at LRMC icu ~2007-2011. Massive hemorrhage from traumatic amputations, pelvic injuries, etc but neurologically intact
Despite advances in advanced resuscitative care, unstable trauma remains a time-sensitive surgical disease.
Intervene as necessary (blood, TXA, etc) en route but don’t delay transport to definitive care.

@RPDumasMD I add a little apple cider vinegar to help dissolve the bones + salt, veggie scraps (celery, onion, garlic, etc), whole herbs (bay & sage leaves, rosemary, allspice, peppercorns, dried chilis, cardamom, coriander etc in some cheese cloth), and sometimes miso, dark soy sauce etc
Hot Off the Press @NEJM! Drs O’Toole & Stein et el show that ASA (81 mg BID) is non-inferior to LMWH with respect to all-cause 90-day mortality post-op in patients with extremity & pelvic fractures. VERY PROUD of our @shocktrauma family & @EAST_TRAUMA President @SteinSister
How do we change this?
It is 100% a waste of time and brain power AS WE HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS. Is there some nurse educator mafia that gets paid by the care plan?
THERE IS MORE IMPORTANT SHIT TO DO
LT Abdul Wasi Safi shot this during his long trek to the US.
He thought he’d be welcomed by the country he served alongside - bravely fighting Taliban insurgents.
Instead, he was detained by Border Patrol 84 days ago. And now faces deportation.
