The Alaska District’s Hero of the Month for May is Cameron McLeod, public affairs specialist.
As the district’s command information specialist, McLeod works to “tell the Corps story in Alaska” on social media and through internal communications.
Participants in the Alaska District’s USACE Leadership Development Program Level Two, or ULDP 2, course visited projects in the Fairbanks area as part of their learning on May 19. The group visited sites including Moose Creek Dam and projects on Fort Wainwright.

Members of the 62nd Forward Engineer Support Team – Advanced completed a certification exercise in Panama for two weeks in May. The mission fulfilled certification exercise requirements for the team prior to their deployment to Guam in August.

Sec. Adam Telle, @ASACivilWorks , discusses the ongoing @USACEHQ installation of temporary flood mitigation barriers known as gabion baskets in Juneau. These barriers helped the citizens of @cbjuneau mitigate the risks from the 2025 GLOF in the Mendenhall River Valley.

Last week, USACE representatives joined staff from the City and Borough of Juneau, Tlingit & Haida and other organizations to conduct flood response training from April 14-17. Another flood training session will be available for the public in July.

The Alaska District conducted the annual Chena Emergency Action Plan exercise at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in North Pole on April 9. The meeting provided an update of snow conditions in the Chena basin and reviewed normal and emergency procedures for operating.
Today is the district's 80th birthday!
In 1946, the Alaska District was chartered to design and construct wartime military facilities while Alaska was still a U.S. territory.

Rebecca Rosenquist and Colby Thurston of the Alaska District’s Asia Pacific Office participated in the Capabilities Development Working Group at the Naval Post Graduate School campus in Monterey, California, on Mar. 23-28.
The Alaska District will host three public meetings in communities in western Alaska to discuss the proposed Graphite Creek project in April. USACE representatives and others will discuss the proposed project and take questions.
