Documentary by CYC
https://t.co/WVT6MxgyDJ
From the banks of the Nile to the heart of South Africa, Metropolitan Antonios Morcos carried the light of the Coptic Orthodox faith across a continent longing for hope.
Born in Cairo in 1936, a physician turned monk, he left behind comfort to serve others with humility and love. For nearly three decades, he built churches, nurtured souls, and united communities across South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.
A true apostle to Africa, Metropolitan Antonios sowed seeds of faith that continue to bloom beyond his passing on October 25, 2025.
He came as a shepherd, served as an apostle, and departed as a faithful servant of God.
May his memory be eternal. 🙏

Saint Mary’s Miracle at Saidnaya Monastery, Syria.
A terrorist in Syria used candles to bomb churches—but what was the miracle?
Early in the morning, a man entered the Saidnaya Monastery to visit, carrying a candle about 1.6 meters long to fulfill a vow. At the entrance of the monastery's church, he encountered one of the nuns, Sister Marina, and asked her to light the candle in front of the Virgin Mary's icon inside the church. He gave her some money to put in the donation box and left immediately, as he was in a hurry.
Sister Marina placed the money in the donation box, then set the candle before the Virgin Mary. She took a match to light it, but to her surprise, the match burned completely without igniting the candle. She tried another match, but the same thing happened. She attempted with several more matches—each one burned entirely, but the candle remained unlit.
Suddenly, she heard screams outside the monastery and rushed out to see what was happening. She discovered that the man who had given her the money and the candle had died of a heart attack on the last step as he was leaving the monastery. Shortly after, the Saidnaya police and Syrian intelligence arrived and began their investigation. However, they couldn’t identify the man—no one present knew who he was.
Sister Marina came forward and said she didn’t know him either—she had only seen him minutes earlier when he handed her the money and the candle to fulfill his vow. The police immediately went up to the church to examine the money and the candle. Upon inspection, they discovered that the candle was filled with sticks of dynamite and highly explosive TNT.
Yet once again, the Virgin Mary protected her monastery and those who were before her icon at that moment.
May the blessings, aid, and intercession of the Virgin Mary be with us. Amen. 🙏

St. Ephraim the Syrian
The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates this week the departure of Saint Ephraim the Syrian.
Ephraim was born around the year 306 in the city of Nisibis (the modern Turkish town of Nusaybin, on the border with Syria, which had come into Roman hands only in 298). Numerous languages were spoken in the Nisibis of Ephraim’s day, mostly dialects of Aramaic. The Christian community used the Syriac dialect.
Jacob, the first bishop of Nisibis, was appointed in 308, and Ephraim grew up under his leadership of the community. Jacob of Nisibis is recorded as a signatory at the First Council of Nicea in 325. Ephraim was baptized as a youth, and almost certainly became a son of the covenant, an unusual form of Syrian proto-monasticism. Jacob appointed Ephraim as a teacher. He was ordained as a deacon either at his baptism or later. He began to compose hymns and write biblical commentaries as part of his educational office. In his hymns, he sometimes refers to himself as a ‘herdsman’, to his bishop as the ‘shepherd’ and his community as a ‘fold’.
Ephraim is popularly credited as the founder of the School of Nisibis, which in later centuries was the centre of learning of the Church of the East.
The most important of his works are his lyric, teaching hymns. These hymns are full of rich, poetic imagery drawn from biblical sources, folk tradition, and other religions and philosophies. Particularly influential were his Hymns Against Heresies.
Ephraim wrote exclusively in the Syriac language, but translations of his writings exist in Armenian, Coptic, Georgian, Greek and other languages.
The most popular title for Ephraim is Harp of the Holy Spirit (Syriac: Kenārâ d-Rûḥâ). He is also referred to as the Deacon of Edessa, the Sun of the Syrians and a Pillar of the Church.
In the Orthodox scheme of hagiography, Ephraim is counted as a Venerable and Righteous Father (i.e., a sainted Monk).

Archangel Michael
The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates the commemoration of Archangel Michael
This name of his is a Hebrew name meaning “who is like God”. He is in a general manner, the commander of the angels. The Holy Church asks for his intercession in every mass, in the hymns, prayers, and songs. His feast is monthly celebrated on the twelfth of every Coptic month, and the miracles which he has operated are mentionned.
Because of the love of people for the Archangel Michael, many people are called by his name, whether in the Hebrew or in the Coptic language (Mikhail), or by his name in English (Michael), or in French (Michel). They are also called by the name of “Malak” (meaning angel), or “Abdel Malak” (meaning the servant of the angel). Many Jews in the Old Testament were also called by his name.
May his blessings be with us, Amen

We don’t deconstruct Orthodoxy.
Because Orthodoxy is not a mood.
It’s not a trend.
It’s not your personal project.
Orthodoxy is fire.
It is unchangeable truth.
It’s the unbroken faith of the apostles, prophets, martyrs, and saints.
You don’t edit it.
You don’t modernize it.
You submit to it.
This faith doesn’t adapt to you.
It breaks you—gently, wholly—
so that Christ can rise in the ruins.
Saints didn’t “deconstruct.”
They fell on their faces and wept.
They took up their crosses in silence.
They bled for the Truth.
The Cross is not adjustable.
The Creed is not up for revision.
The Gospel doesn’t ask for your opinion.
You’re not called to reconstruct the Church.
You’re called to be reconstructed by it.
So if you’re tired of bending truth to suit your wounds—
Come. Bow your wounds to the Wounded One.
Orthodoxy doesn’t evolve.
It resurrects.
