🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has pledged to scrap business rates for shops, cafes and hairdressers - and reduce them by 20% for pubs
It would be funded by increasing taxes on online tech giants and their British warehouses

English identity took a hit once it took on the vagueness of “British” identity. In Scotland we may argue about our constitutional future but we are absolutely certain about our identity as Scot’s.

@murphystanacc This is after the family has explicitly asked to not politicise his name. They don’t care about Henry, otherwise they’d let the IOPC investigate and respect the families wishes.
🚨 NEW: The Government will not ban Sikhs from carrying ceremonial knives, one of which was used in Henry Nowak's murder
Home Secretary: "Carrying a knife for the purpose of religious observance is one thing - using it is quite another"
Number of people asking me to comment on the Henry Nowak case. His father said "We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension". If you can't respect his wishes, you're scum. That's what I think.
The SNP isn’t perfect by any means but the things you are describing are UK wide systemic issues that have accumulated over years and years of austerity measures put in place by successive UK governments. Scotland has managed to curb some of these problems through devolved powers but only so much can be done. I do see your point but in my opinion there’s 101 things you could say about the SNP but I think they’ve done pretty good job up until lately trying to curb Tory government after Tory government.
@5hunter1@Dogo2k@SpursWinTrophys And you don’t think 14 years of austerity, Brexit and Covid had anything to do with the decay of high streets and public services? Just pin that one on the SNP shall we?
@TessHope3@RestoreBritain When presented with irrefutable facts you begin lying without a single shred of evidence. You can either provide me with the source which backs you up or accept that the truth doesn’t actually matter to you.
I don’t care what religion you are.
NOBODY other than law enforcement will get to carry deadly weapons under a Reform government.
Reform will repeal the exemption for Sikhs to carry the kirpan.
We will deploy stop and search and get deadly weapons off our streets.
@IonaWynee93435@ZiaYusufUK Firstly in the case with the Sikh man and Henry Nowak that brought forward reforms call for a ban the kirpan wasn’t used. The Sikh man used an illegal blade to murder Henry. Secondly, yes I can here’s a link.

@TessHope3 Kirpans and sgian-dubh’s make up 0.01% of knife crime numbers they have almost the same amount of fatalities and that’s with Sikhs carrying their kirpans at all times.
Ban all ceremonial blades or ban none of them. This is a bigoted policy aimed at a singular group. What is the sense of allowing (at time of wearing usually drunken) Scottish men to carry a knife as per our cultural traditions but god forbid a Sikh man carries his cultural and religious blade (while stone cold sober as per their faith)
Both ceremonial blades have had similar death/injury numbers and they are both minuscule making up 0.01% of knife crime numbers. 30% of children are living in poverty in the UK and reform doesn’t have a single policy tailored to tackle it. But never mind that, thank god they are taking on the real issues.
Hull and East Yorkshire mayor Luke Campbell’s region is a hub for the green industry, but his party Reform UK opposes Net Zero.
“If we continue going down the Net Zero route, we’re going to bankrupt our economy”, Campbell told Channel 4 News' Andrew Misra.
Scientists argue that while Net Zero investment is costly upfront, it is likely to save money in the long term.
Experts also say there is no viable alternative that delivers the same scale of impact, while Reform points instead to increased North Sea oil and gas extraction as part of its energy strategy.
