Banning under-16s from YouTube mostly means banning them from logging in, which means YouTube will treat them less like kids and more like anonymous adults. Great job, UK.
if this social media ban came in when I was a kid it would literally have prevented me from starting my entire career
I started on youtube when I was 13. the no nonsense guides would not exist if I had to start years later. crazy to think about tbh
It's truly abominable how quickly it went to "no it's just porn" to "everything in the centralised Internet is on lockdown until we are able to arrest everyone for memes"
There goes our future creators...
The UK is already falling behind other countries when it comes to presence on modern media. This will set us back even further.
Not to mention the REAL elephant in the room; linking your ID's to accounts where previously it wasn't a requirement. With how often things get hacked it puts everyone at risk.
Make no mistake, Starmer and his band of goons don't give two damns about the children, what they want is a way to track those who criticise them (and a certain other country) on the platforms through their ID's. Even if HIS government won't be around long enough to use it against us, there is no doubt in my mind that this system will be abused when a more tyrannical leader takes power.
The UK is just spiralling at this point, I'm having serious thoughts about getting out. Who's countries have 3Gb + upload speeds?
I’m helping a disabled client verify his age with @PlayStation@Sony. He can't use their standard methods, and they have ignored requests for reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. This breaks UK law. @Ofcom please look into this or I'll take legal action.
Nobody can use the internet in the UK without full identification.
Within months leaks of the entire nation's ID samples will be common place.
Smart kids will bypass all controls.
The UK will never start another successful internet business.
@Ada2987_art Capcom needs to start trusting its existing playerbase more and stop catering to new players who don't really care about Monster Hunter apart from fighting cool monsters
It hits 8:30PM. You get a GovAI notification on your phone.
'Please show your papers in order to make sure no children are using this phone after curfew.'
You're insane if you aren't concerned about this. You shouldn't be able to vote ever again if you aren't deeply concerned.
Agree that social media is bad for children.
Do not agree with the state stepping in when it's first and foremost the parents' job to raise their kids.
This is just going to have horrible chilling effects. I hope other countries don't repeat the same mistakes as the UK.
when i was in secondary & sixth form i rarely attended classes bc of disabilities, hospital stays & social services. educational content on youtube SAVED me & allowed me education at a russell group uni. this is dooming all kids suffering in abusive homes & disabled children
While watching the DBD Anniversary stream today, I had many people coming into my chat asking why I have such negative things to say about the developers and the community at large.
I've been trying to talk about the DBD dev that sexually harassed me at a convention for 3 years now & no one from BHVR will address it. And streamers that were there would rather cancel me over asking about Hogwarts Legacy than realize I could have been a real victim that night
Under these proposals at 17 you’ll be able to vote, join the army and drive a car but not allowed to watch premier league highlights on YouTube on a Saturday night. What an absurd idea.
