FINDING THE RIGHT MENTOR IS VITAL
I cannot stress this enough. Last year, after everything was said & done, there was nothing I could do but prepare myself for the next season. I asked my mentor at that time for advice & I was deadly surprised when she advised me to quit. Heartbroken, Disappointed, and Hopeless I could not stop myself from feeling.
But, you know me. I refused to accept it. I found another mentor & was lucky to meet my current mentor, who believes in me, see through my strengths & weaknesses, & help me to achieve my goal. His endless support & timely advice were the keys to my success.

One day you’re the third year med student on the team and your hands are shaking presenting the SOAP note, then you blink and you’re the attending on the inpatient service leading the whole team.
To the med students out there, trust that you belong here as much as anyone else.
Hi Dr. Intern. It’s October, and the pace feels like it’s picking up. You know your way around the hospital, you know how to place some orders, and you’re getting to know your co-residents.
You also might feel like you’re struggling to keep up. 1/
DOs who prefer radiology, anesthesiology, OBGYN, or general surgery all face ~60-70% match rates… which is even lower than MD seniors trying to match in neurosurgery or dermatology.
And these rates are actually lower than the last time I looked at these data in 2020.
First week of intern year is almost over ✅
This week has taught me to be patient with myself.
I am so grateful for my senior residents and attendings that have been more patient with me than I have ever been with myself. 😅
Dear Michael,
You fulfilled a lifelong dream! Your journey to MD began 20 years ago. While you never could have predicted some of the twists and turns of your medical journey, each step has prepared you for this moment.
