.@UCC_ED commended MTN for fulfilling its responsibility with consistency and good faith, describing it as a shared investment in national development rather than a burden.
He noted that the UGX 54.27 billion contribution, an increase from last year, is evidence of a flourishing sector and a strong signal of corporate citizenship aligned with UCC’s vision of a fully Connected Uganda by 2030.

REVITALISING UGANDA'S CREATIVE ECONOMY INVOLVES ADOPTING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WHILE PRESERVING CULTURAL HERITAGE.
During a live appearance on CBS FM 89.2 last evening, hosted by MC Wale Wale on the Evening Cruz show, we delved into a critical conversation about how the creative economy in Uganda has fundamentally moved away from its old identity.
For decades, the creative industry was widely viewed as a casual hobby, a tool for pure entertainment rather than a formalised economic driver. Production structures were localised, and live showcases were limited to community grounds and local fields.
Today, we are witnessing a profound structural shift: music and the creative arts have fully transitioned from physical ownership to a dynamic, digital-driven market.
This transformation offers unprecedented financial opportunities for creators, but it also demands a new approach to sector development, digital literacy, and regulatory quality assurance.
As the digital landscape evolves, the focus of regulation must naturally mature. The initial phase of industrial growth was heavily preoccupied with building physical infrastructure and tackling the "last inch" of connectivity, getting hardware, spectrum, and smartphones into the hands of citizens.
With those foundations now largely established, the true frontier is content. A pressing concern within this digital migration is the artificial inflation of metrics, such as the buying of social media engagement and likes.
Superficial numbers cannot build a sustainable career or a resilient national industry; instead, the emphasis must return to authentic reach, high production values, and professional digital literacy.
Simultaneously, this digital evolution presents an urgent cultural challenge: safeguarding our foundational heritage.
Traditional genres like Kadongo Kamu carry Uganda’s unique social history and storytelling soul, yet they are increasingly at risk of fading as younger generations favour short-form, high-tempo content.
To bridge this generational divide, there is immense value in strategically integrating modern production elements into classic frameworks, blending the depth of veteran icons with contemporary rhythms to capture a wider audience.
Embracing advances such as artificial intelligence responsibly can breathe new life into timeless catalogues without erasing their core identity.
To ensure this transition benefits both creators and the national economy, institutional support must go beyond passive oversight. Active interventions, such as formal resource-mobilisation dinners and strategic public-private partnerships, are essential for channeling funding directly to heritage preservation projects and digital music archives.
True regulation in this modern era does not mean leading with immediate restrictions or bans; it relies on a balanced three-pillar approach of engagement, education, and research-driven compliance.
By prioritising community sensitisation, addressing misinformation, and upholding firm standards of public decency, the goal remains clear: to build a creative ecosystem where local talent thrives commercially, cultural history is permanently preserved, and professional quality is uncompromised.
