🚨 OMG THIS IS MASSIVE: EU Moves to Cut Dependence on U.S. Big Tech
While EU leaders are in India to sign a major trade deal, Brussels has quietly taken a decisive step against American technological dominance. The European Parliament has adopted a new resolution aimed at reducing the European Union’s heavy reliance on U.S. tech companies and reclaiming full digital sovereignty.
The concern is serious. Around 70–80% of Europe’s digital infrastructure, cloud services, operating systems, AI platforms, semiconductor tools, and cybersecurity, depends on U.S. firms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Even more alarming, U.S. laws allow American authorities to access European data stored by these companies, turning digital dependence into a national security risk.
Triggered by rising geopolitical tensions and repeated pressure tactics from Donald Trump, including threats over trade barriers and NATO funding, the EU concluded that strategic autonomy is impossible without digital autonomy.
As a result, the EU is shifting from merely regulating U.S. Big Tech to replace it. The resolution backs the creation of a homegrown, multi-layered digital ecosystem known as EuroStack, covering everything from raw materials and semiconductors to cloud, AI, and cybersecurity.
France, Germany, Italy, and Spain are already pushing aggressively, restricting U.S. cloud use in government systems, funding European alternatives, and prioritizing “Buy European” tech policies.
For U.S. tech giants, this could mean lost government contracts, shrinking market share, and long-term revenue setbacks.
