It’s ultimately a net negative for me (for many reasons), & I think has contributed greatly to the deterioration of not only styles of modern discourse, but the *way* many people think.(1/2)
@petermansbridge@ChantalHbert@CanadaTalks167 Friendly correction for @ChantalHbert :
Today, she asked when was the last time a leader's name was plastered largely on a plane (like Pierre is doing now)—we don't need to look *that* far back:

If you saw these buildings filled with Indigenous children today, would you have questions? Why did so many people ignore them when they were open?
I'll tell you why. The government told you they were a good thing and many believed them, even to this day.
Perhaps we should start here.
@nicksSG I think he was specifically referring to the overall financial institution meltdown in the U.S. there.
Earlier in the interview he specifically talks about bailing GM out in Canada and goes into it a bit.
A few years ago when this came out, I noted that one of the most informative things about Ben Shapiro interviewing Stephen Harper was how it juxtaposed American-style “conservative” punditry against a more serious conservative policy-oriented POV.

@seraphineluce@FionaMattatall Those who want government involved in healthcare & their lives to certain degrees will inevitably see others get power & involve govt. in their lives to other degrees.
There’s no way out of this but an actual firm principle of neutrality.
Otherwise, it’s tug of war forever. 🤷♂️
@Antoniette__76@ChristinaMae82@liberal_party Thank you for adding to the pile of evidence that many progressives and white Liberals are often only interested in the “good” queer folks, “good” people of color, and so on.
The criteria for “good” being they have to adhere to the current progressive messaging and morality.
Yes, because as we all know (for example), stereotypes tell us that English people *always* felt they could leave “their women” around Italian people and trust it 100%…
So, now we can just safely say “Europe” in this happily unified sense so they can share racial prejudice.
More posts from Toronto and/or Vancouver where people genuinely can’t fathom any legitimate disagreement or dislike of Trudeau.
Remember folks, now the press are *conservative* biased…
Dislike of Trudeau is mostly manfuctured by the press and Con social media.
Dislike of Poilievre is organic and due to his genuine lack of anything to like.
#NeverPoilievre
@GhostCoase Apply that template to all of Latin America in the late 1900s, and you pretty much get the exact approach intellectuals used to present the “success” of neoliberal reforms under dictators (or otherwise).
How to comment on Milei's performance in Argentina: cherry-pick a particular macroeconomic indicator that aligns with your a priori bias about right-libertarianism, ignore others, ignore the fact that worthwhile policies can have short-run pain (and vice versa), declare victory.
@seraphineluce Honestly, serious pro-life arguments often deserve more attention and critical thought from people who admit to having zero problem with abortion, but the manic fetus obsession—literally exemplified here with thrown about virtual chicken scratch—is always cringe.
“State X is not a leader in renewables.”
Okay… What if the “leaders” are beyond the socially optimal decarbonization rate?
Would you want to be a “leader” in burning money for net negative social results?
@GhostCoase They do (intentionally or not) want “leaders” making policy changes and massive state-driven investments that push beyond optimal points and into net negatives because climate action has become known in many political circles as noble good in and of itself.
@diana_murphy613 In reality, “for the country” means for Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, & a few other ridings the federal Liberals can win to pretend they represent the entire country.
Honestly, it’s no wonder Quebec & Alberta consistently voice how fed up they are with fed. government hypocrisy.
@diana_murphy613 This has always been a hypocritical stance by Canadians.
Complain about Quebec endlessly, & then whenever they try and leave or do their own thing, a bunch of federal propaganda starts about how much we love them and how they should stay and work with everyone “for the country.”
