Can we please fix the Library? I don’t want @Neilyoung and @MargaretAtwood mad at me
(*I voted against the cuts, and recently passed a motion for a full staff report on the “restructuring”)
264 residents arrived by plane in Peterborough yesterday evacuated from Sandy Lake First Nations.
I've been asked to help organize donations for men's size 12 and 13 shoes, and men's size 4XL clothing.
Items can be dropped off at the Friendship Centre.

@TwinningDad13@wiredwoman The Integrity Commissioner found the Mayor did break the Code of Conduct—that fact doesn’t change because Council voted not to reprimand him. The vote was about whether there should be consequences. Questioning that decision is part of democracy, not a threat to it.
If a fully substantiated finding of abusive and intimidating conduct by the Integrity Commissioner isn’t upheld, then what’s the point of our Council Code of Conduct at all?
❌
@TwinningDad13@wiredwoman I get that you only engage on social media, but City Council operates differently. In this case, the Mayor was found by the Integrity Commissioner to have broken the code of conduct. In Diane Therrien’s case, she was cleared. So your comparison doesn’t hold up.
Solidarity with Joy Lachica right now.
What she experienced is finally coming out publicly—I was there. And it was bad. Despite the mayor’s statement today, he is not the victim here. The Integrity Commissioner’s findings are clear.
We must not let carefully worded statements downplay or justify what happened. I stand with my Ward mate.
@DomaLady We have plans both short term and long term (Councillour Riel and I) but we have been pushed to the periphery on this, not for the merits of our work, but for political reasons.
Update: tents are back at Reid St. just as we assumed — Solutions > Enforcment
“Bierk called the current enforcement approach a
"song and dance" routine that has failed to address the root causes of homelessness while simply highlighting the lack of communication between city departments and council.”
Councillor Riel and I were grateful to speak this morning at St. James United Church as part of the Affirm Committee’s series on marginalized populations. We discussed homelessness and the critical need for compassion and support in our community. Thank you to Carolee Awde and everyone at St. James for hosting this important conversation
