This is a guy who just doesn’t understand baseball that deeply. CF is arguably the most important defensive position on the diamond, with SS and C right there with it.

Center fielders are responsible for more ground than anyone else in the outfield—and, more importantly, there are balls that are simply the CF’s responsibility because the LF and RF physically can’t get there. They are asked to do more.

When you have a CF as athletic and absurdly talented as PCA, you’re going to see astronomical defensive numbers because he is literally getting to balls other center fielders don’t get to - and in some cases, no centerfielder ever has. Ever.

So when he says, “CFs get love from WAR defensively”—yeah, the good and great ones do. Because they’re doing more defensively than almost anyone else on the field. I can show you plenty of center fielders who get absolutely no “love” from defensive WAR because they aren’t elite defenders.

There is no magical CF WAR bonus. PCA’s numbers are ridiculous because PCA is ridiculous.
