@mshokongo@TheOmniLiberal I agree it’s bad faith - I think it comes from Destiny obfuscating about the genocide occurring in Gaza, but I don’t think it helps for Medhi to say “you SUPPORT GENOCIDE”. It’s possible to think Destiny doesn’t support genocide, and that Medhi isn’t a secret Islamist
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal We shouldn’t be in the business of ostracizing thousands of people when they share 95% of our core values. My answer would be “yes Hasan is part of the coalition, we vehemently disagree on many topics, and his most controversial views don’t represent anywhere near a majority”
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal When you attempt to ostracize this way, you’re actually pushing out the hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who agree with some kernel or version of his critique, but essentially share your view of its extremity. He’s also akin to an entertainer like Rogan
@notsoErudite@MattWalshBlog We have Matt Walsh of all people pushing back against right wing troll behavior and delivering a reasonably subtle history in defense of a Native American origin - seems positive and not the thing to dunk on
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal You’re welcome to your very narrow version of who is your ally, but I don’t think I’m inclined to share that perspective. In the same way I could imagine sharing certain views and ideologies with a communist from China right now, I can share views with Hasan
@TheYungbug@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal I’m not sure how to take this seriously with Donald Trump as president. The right wing quite literally has been taken over by the fringe partially because the fringe was so ignored.
@BpBpc@TheOmniLiberal I’m not even sure what you’re talking about, I didn’t say anything deserved more attention than anything else. There are differences between wars and genocides. Current Ukraine conflict seems to be a more regular war, Palestine is an ethnic cleansing, value that how you wish
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal If we’re talking about healthcare or human rights, abortion access, the working class, court reform, etc., we are all in agreement. I’m taking that to be a kind of moral indicator that these ppl aren’t idiots or monsters, and that if we disagree on FP there could be a good reason
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal In my world view, given the history of the United States bad behavior on the world stage, you get to be very anti-American in your criticism and still be a patriot to me. I disagree with many of those people, but they are my allies 95% of the time
@BpBpc@TheOmniLiberal It’s not weird insisting on genocide when it’s so clearly is one, and when the government ministers committing it can’t help but say it themselves. Can’t say the same as clearly about Ukraine. Certainly could during the 1932 genocide against the Ukrainians.
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal Building a coalition that wins means, in part, finding a way to speak to people who like Hasan Piker. There is a common cause buried there which is anti-US militarism and pro human rights
@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal Too left wing… except I’m saying Tucker Carlson listeners are get-able and am advocating for reaching out. You don’t exclude your own fringe of the coalition, IMO. All of these factions have something they’re right about even if they’re wrong about everything else
@BpBpc@TheOmniLiberal Genocide supporter might be too strong, and correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Destiny one of these folks who won’t call what’s happening a genocide? At this point that position reveals its own moral failure - may not deserve the term “supporter” but “apologist” is fair
@Tummy362348@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal With respect to the genocide occurring in Gaza and the West Bank, Hasan and Tucker Carlson are my allies, without caveat. With respect to abortion rights, Tucker is my opposition. With respect to America’s place in the world, Hasan is my opposition. Not hard to thread that needle
@Tummy362348@ardonpitt@TheOmniLiberal Politics is moving away from this type of thinking, and the fact is I just refuse to think of my fellow Americans as disgusting and vile and “destructive to western life”. My posture will be of curiosity, and an attempt to align around issues not broad ideologies
