I had the pleasure of reviewing @AlexMStark’s book: The Yemen Model for the German-Yemeni Society‘s Jemen Report. Thank you @MarieHeinze for the opportunity.
An excerpt from my review: “Over these two decades, I have seen many Yemen experts come and go. Some were freelance journalists based in Sana‘a, others arrived to study Arabic and fell in love with the country. Many explored Yemen through university research, while few worked on it professionally. Some seemed to emerge unexpectedly and then disappear just as quickly. There were those who remained unfazed by conflict, those who were not “afraid of the bullets,” others who “fell from the sky,” those who examined how “Yemen endures,” and those who studied the delicate act of “dancing on the heads of snakes.” Others chronicled al-Qa‘ida’s “last refuge” or took a satirical approach, writing about “salmon fishing in the Yemen.” Ultimately, all of these perspectives contribute to the broader dis-
cussion of “the Yemen model,” the title of
the book I want to review here.”

Misogyny is, unfortunately, alive and well!
@Madison_Schramm, Lori Crasnic & I find that women heads of government are more likely to be accused of corruption due to pervasive gendered beliefs about women and corruption. In @CJPS_RCSP https://t.co/FpfJKbFTr6

Austin regularly raises need for more humanitarian aid, political solution w Israelis. His Oct 7 statement cited the 4 Isr hostages killed by Hamaas+the 3 Amcits Israelis killed in past year. Rare in DC, he seems to get big picture, multiple viewpoints + limits of military power.
