@amazingmap This may have been because the Sacramento and American Rivers (and many others) flooded almost every year, turning the Central Valley into an “inland sea” periodically. Sacramento flooded MANY times before levees and dams were built
@d9monti See this data is the first time I’ve more seriously entertained the thought that the extra 109 DOES make a difference. Such a common joke, but at the razor’s edge that extra 7% distance seems to matter
@CitiusMag That’s gotta be the slowest last lap to a) run that fast a time and b) win a DL. That must have hurt SO MUCH 😂 glad he held on though, that’s guts. That’s like TDF breakaway just barely succeeding
@runcamille -the last 1/3 of the course is harder, steeper, per mile.
-it could be 80 clear and breezy or it could be 88 with on and off thunderstorms and stifling humidity
-it “should” be an “easy” race but some years there’s a 30-40% DNF rate.
-almost zero cell reception all weekend
@ThePapaLinks We would love to have you come out. Good people and fun challenges. There are a couple of great fast flat races like Tunnel Hill (pure dirt tow path) and Javalina (smooth desert trails, but heat). My 2 cents is “go run a trail 50k with a slower friend, don’t compete, just enjoy”
@McKirdyTrained I keep a list of weird reasons an American or WR doesn’t count: lack of testing, missing curb on the track, mixed nationality relay etc. But this is a new one. At least it wasn’t like Mondo or Lagat where he sets BOTH country NR
@zagbagtx@aidstationfireb@AravaipaRunning Ida was the NCAA champion at both 3k steeple chase and 5k I believe and set Swedish National records, so she was a college speedster
