@TartinoVerdi@seatsixtyone Problem isn't costs, it's capacity. SNCF Réseau couldn't find a path which would allow for a stop in Tourcoing in 2027 - perhaps 2028.
@isochronous_@N104AP Make a very good product available to small users for free, and those people will turn into ambassadors. Cloudflare does the same - their free offer packs a punch.
I've been telling my friends about @Tailscale and @Cloudflare, and also advocated for it at work.
@ChristianLempa For my home lab: nothing. I use @Tailscale, which gives me fast and secure access to all devices and services in my home lab from anywhere on the planet.
For some hobby projects: @Cloudflare tunnel. Works great for ingress, plus Cloudflare's tech like bot fighting.
Both free!
@borpin@seatsixtyone I've had similar experiences with flights.
"Sorry, your plane is overbooked. We have rebooked you onto the next one, 6 hours from now."
"Sorry, but due to our delay your connecting flight has already left. Here's a voucher for a motel and you're on tomorrow morning's flight."
@titn_455@alper voltage changeover location between Zevenaar and Elten. There is no longer switchable OLE in Emmerich, so Dutch DC only trains can no longer go there. 2/2
@titn_455@alper That's correct but for different reasons.
Up until 2016, Emmerich has switchable overhead line voltage as well and the signal box had similar requirements. But the signaller in Emmerich had an extra button at their disposal to bypass the check.
Nowadays there's a fixed 1/2
@alper Welcome to Germany... :-)
In all seriousness, changing the systems here will be a big job. And it's the railway and this is safety critical stuff, very expensive. For a dozen of trains a day probably not value for money.
Details about what happens:

@alper Not quite true: you have to stop in Bad Bentheim for technical reasons (change of voltage on the overhead wires). It's not possible to have the exit signal at Bad Bentheim towards Osnabrück show green while the wires are still set to Dutch 1500 V DC voltage.
@ConnorAllenEU To be fair, this is a Paris specific oddity (no, I don't get why either). In Lyon you can get around with just your bank card - and the system does capping, too.
@nemefungus@rezztroalt Here in Europe that's the standard way of doing things though.
The only way a termination would be with immediate effect is for stuff like grave misconduct. A reorganization needs to go through proper termination processes and just can't be done like at Epic.
@liz_love_lace The railway still runs on these principles!
A lot of modernisation and automation has gone into it, but the basic principle of "the railway is divided into blocks, and only one train can be in a block at the same time" is still in place.
@NoelDolphin RTV Noord write that the province had a lot of demands for these 4 trains, which I guess played into the decision to not bid.

@ZacksJerryRig And look at the amount of staff! At some point in the video, I can see 11 people in hi-viz jackets. Extrapolate that to all stations and you're easily looking at 100 people.
At $36k/year (median) that's $3.6M in personnel costs! Bonkers.
@FrankMenger € 3,20 voor een enkeltje met het OV binnen Wenen (of € 3 als je een digitaal kaartje gebruikt), koekoek...
Geef mij het Nederlandse systeem maar. Veel eerlijker.
