Mark Pope taking 35 minutes to realize he can’t play Moreno/Jelavic in a game where we are getting lit up from 3 because we can’t switch on the perimeter is coaching malpractice.
We have had no answer so far this season when the other team plays with this type of desperation. The willing out falling on the floor, hacking every play, push dudes in the back, force-the-refs-to-call-it, Rick Pitino-style intensity desperation. Hope we fix it.
Credit Mitch Barnhart: May have run the worst coaching search I've ever seen:
* Get turned down by a guy you've promised your fan-base for years
* Hail mary to the best in the game who will never say yes
* Panic hire someone you could've gotten in a week
This was a masterclass
UK bball has devastated me thrice. 2010 vs WVU, 2014 vs UCONN, and 2015 vs Wisc. This one wasn’t devastating (none of the last~6 years have been). Now it’s just infuriating. Now I have to be the miserable bball fan that roots for other teams to lose.
Watching Coach Cal try to gameplan and adjust against a 2-3 zone was wild. There are a lot of ways to beat a zone. He chose the simple middle school option of playing through a big in the middle most of the game. On the surface it’s not a bad place to start but…
When your bigs are inefficient shooters, poor passers, and bad rim finishers, that strategy is not a good one. And Oakland was more than happy to back off those dudes and let them shit down their legs. He tried to make a change late but momentum was gone.
