@haidaa@tszzl 90% of cells in your epidermis will die within a month, but that doesn't mean the epidermis itself will die, because the cells that die off get replaced, that's just how biology works. But a runaway unaligned AGI may actually kill off the whole "epidermis", i.e. the humanity.
@pensaerefletir@renatobpalhano@margaretmelonii If you remove the windshield and all other windows from the car to let the outside air in (which is stationary relative to the ground and therefore moves at 60km/h relative to the car) then sure, the air will try to blow the drone away.
@dwarkesh_sp I think gestation crates are an abomination and should be outlawed, but calling them "a version of Little Ease" is an insult to the people tortured in the actual Little Ease, who I imagine would give the world for the ability to both stand and lay down (which the pigs can do).
@FlakeSamael@JeffFisch None of those countries are currently facing a large scale foreign invasion except for Lebanon, and while it technically isn't under martial law, the elections there have in fact been postponed.
@FlakeSamael@JeffFisch Ukrainian laws prohibit holding elections under martial law since 2015 (long before Zelensky even started considering becoming a politician). I don't see how you can blame him for following the laws that existed before him.
I guess it can be interpreted ambiguously without context, sure. But with all the videos and witness reports it's pretty clear that these (mostly residential) districts were not actually attacked, aside from the oil terminal and the ship in the drydock, and there was no AA collateral damage in the residential areas either. If you look at the map, the attack drones arrived from the west, where there is nothing but the sea for over 20km.
@JonSurf6@bayraktar_1love It says "Explosions were reportedly heard in the Admiralteysky, Vasileostrovsky, Primorsky, and Krasnoselsky districts of Saint Petersburg." These districts are in direct line of sight from the oil terminal, which is why the explosions were heard there.
@Afinetheorem It could also be that for now, while the models are frequently wrong, it's better to be wrong in line with the user rather than wrong and against the user. It feels bad to ask advice from an entity that confidently tried to convince you that you were wrong when you were right.
@jarrylew@mattyryze UVA intensity actually changes very little almost all the way to sunset. UVB does change a lot more, but it's the UVA that's responsible for photoageing.
@andrew_just@DrAndyGalpin@AJA_Cortes Having a CAC of 0 still leaves about 1% probability that one has obstructive non-calcified plaque (over 50% obstruction). The $1200 test addresses that probability, as well as more correctly assessing the risk if the CAC is > 0.
@So8res@abcampbell@slatestarcodex I could see people saying "if we're going to negotiate a pause anyway, why bother stopping chip smuggling?", i.e. it can weaken the argument. Negotiating can happen later, but smuggling needs to be stopped ASAP.
@ProfesorZoran@newstart_2024 Mold does not grow well at fridge temperatures, and certainly not at freezer temperatures. Room temperature - sure, it could, but still takes a while.
People with FH have low rates of LDL removal, which causes LDL particles to stay in serum for a long time, where they get oxidized and glycated, which makes them more atherogenic.
LMHRs have high rates of LDL production and high rates of removal, which means shorter average time in serum and therefore less damage per particle.
> video of people trying to shoot down attacking FPV drones with shotguns
To be fair, they were pretty successful with the AR15 version of the drone shot, and while those are more expensive than regular bullets, they are much cheaper than drones. I could see widespread use of such rounds making fiber optic drones much less effective (since they are rather slow).
@horsewater@maxmarchione@Recursion_Agent Liraglutide (the first widespread artificial GLP-1 agonist) was first synthesized by Novo in 2001, approved in 2009-2010, and still only had a 13 hour half-life (so had to be injected daily). Better than natural GLP-1's 2 minutes, but still not good enough for the mass market.
@abrotherseamus@maxmarchione It's important to note that actual natural GLP-1 has a half-life of 2 minutes when injected, and Pfizer was absolutely correct that no one would go on injecting themselves every 2 minutes.
