Couple of birds from the past couple of days at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, Green Sandpiper and Great Egret. Willow Warblers have arrived as of today as well!
Desert Wheatear at Beachy Head yesterday, always nice when a rarity is more or less running around at your feet. Great Egret and 2 late Swallows moving East were surprise additions, (very) distant Stone Curlew also picked up at Tide Mills on the way.
Timed a weekend outing to Thursley Common with @freya_fulcher well with news of a Red-backed Shrike surfacing this morning, my first in the UK in over 15 years. Good to see all the usual heathland specialities too, as well as a bonus Spotted Flycatcher. @SurreyBirdNews
Richmond Park this am: Male Whinchat Lawn Field, 2 Common Tern, 3 Common Sandpiper, Reed and Cetti’s Warbler at Pen Ponds, Lesser Redpolls in Pond Plantation @SurreyBirdNews@lndbirdnews
Northern Waterthrush gave brief but ridiculous views in Heybridge this morning. Well worth cold feet and a 5am start, and also great to do a twitch fully on public transport!
Had what was almost certainly an Ortolan Bunting over my Brixton garden yesterday. Picked it up on call and caught sight of it as it disappeared over the rooftops, but no bins to hand to confirm the ID definitely. One that got away!
After almost two and a half years since living here, would be rude not to pay a visit to my old patch in Germering while staying in Munich! Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, Firecrest, Crested, Marsh and Willow Tit and Short-toed Treecreeper all present in an emotional visit.
