Unrig LA is one of the best resources on LA politics on this website, and his information and analysis has been used in much of our reporting. Appreciate his support! Big loss for LAT's reporting staff
As the national news reports on the racism scandal engulfing LA City Council, one photo I see a lot is of Nury Martinez during the city’s settlement announcement in the LA Alliance lawsuit over homelessness. Which reminds me that Nury’s departure could greatly affect the case. 🧵
Sharing my perspective on @unrigla’s thread: For months, I questioned why I couldn’t get through to my colleagues during the redistricting process. It seemed overtly racist to me to deny the only Black district in LA of any economic assets.
Aug 12:
“To staffers that continue to give us leaks & continue to let us know how these narcissist keep telling us don’t share this information yet.. you’re covering for their BS.. their anti-blackness, anti-blackness… we’ll keep taking their leaks & we will end their careers”
We should use this opportunity to not only clear city council of this misleadership class but to repeal the harmful decisions they made against our collective will-41.18 which criminalizes houselessness, the stripping away of renter protections, the absurd bike ordinances which
“I come from the Latino community. I’ve seen the anti-Blackness, the racism in my community, and it's taken me years to move people into a better direction. And so I believe that it's possible, but it requires patience. It requires love, it requires political education.”
BTW - Nury Martinez's husband works for Sheriff Villanueva's campaign manager. If you're wondering how this all so fucked up and connected.
The racist former council president's husband works for the top gang banging cop in the state. Welcome to Los Angeles #LASDgangs
Isn’t it great how @KnockDotLA does better reporting than the two establishment Times papers? Can you imagine what we could do with a full time staff??
LOS ANGELES - WHAT IS MEASURE A?
Measure A is a local ballot measure in LA that will be on the Nov. ballot. It’s long past time to create meaningful accountability for the office of the sheriff. Please follow @yesona_la & visit https://t.co/tqxeqRL62D #YesOnA
MEASURE A THREAD:
LAPD is mad because this survey shows half of households who have to live with an LAPD officer want to defund the police, and 52.4% want to DISMANTLE THE POLICE:
Thanks to @PaulKoretzCD5 who didn't get to know the area or people redistricted into his district but just called for huge swaths of it to be marked as 41.18 zones. LAPD just displaced folks who were *just* displaced from a few blocks away. It includes:
Went to a sweep in @PaulKoretzCD5's district by the Tar Pits. Rotonda says she was not offered housing or shelter before today's 41.18 sweep. She was given 15 minutes to move her stuff across a busy street, couldn't get all of it, then was detained watching her stuff thrown away.
