Appalled at the shootings targeting Shaarei Shomayim and Beth Avraham Yoseph Synagogues of Toronto.
The Jewish Community is under attack in Canada. Government’s core responsibility is the safety of its people. It is time to end this violence once and for all.
We stand in total solidarity with the Jewish people for freedom and safety in Canada and everywhere.
Jewish homes, schools, and places of worship are under constant threat in Canada.
Our Jewish neighbours must feel safe to worship, gather, raise their children, and live freely and proudly in this country.
We must root out this scourge of antisemitism. Those responsible for this violence must be found and brought to justice.
BREAKING: Canadian film “The Road Between Us,” about a retired Israeli general's rescue mission on 10/7, won the People's Choice Award at TIFF — after organizers initially tried to ban it for “Hamas ownership of massacre clips.”
The industry might be trying to shut Jews out, but the people are louder: supporting Israeli stories in film is the path to peace.
Jewish and Israeli stories are how we build bridges, understanding, and truth. I hope this well-deserved win sets that precedent.

The social media posts made by Joseph Rooke, the suspect in the unprovoked stabbing of a Jewish woman in Ottawa yesterday, leave little doubt as to the motive behind the attack. "jews have become insidious in governments, businesses, media conglomerates, and educational institutions in order to do what they do better than anyone else. Jews are the world’s masters of propaganda, gaslighting, demonization, demagoguery, and outright lying." His comments online are those of a hateful man and a rabid antisemite.
For months, B'nai Brith Canada has warned Canadian leaders of the dangers of allowing hate to foment unchecked on our streets and online platforms. Sadly, our warnings have gone unheeded.
What has become of our nation? What has become of Canadian values? The Canada that was internationally recognized as a leader in the advancement of human rights, and a land of opportunity, is not the Canada we are living in today. We are living in the Canada where strangers stab women while they are shopping for groceries, seemingly targeting them because of their religious beliefs.
How we resolve the present crisis of hate and division plaguing our society will define the trajectory of our nation for generations to come. We all have a role to play. If our leaders will not act, then we as Canadians must serve as the voice of reason.
Statement from Rabbi Saul Emanuel
The arrest of the man filmed before Shabbat threatening to “kill you all” in reference to Jews while strutting through our streets in a keffiyeh worn as a turban is both necessary and overdue. Let us be clear: this was not a drunken rant, not a careless slip of the tongue, and not an isolated act. The target of this vile threat was an employee of the Jewish Community Council — a man simply doing his job, serving our community, and ensuring that Jewish life in Montréal continues to flourish. To threaten him is to threaten the very institutions that anchor Jewish life in this city.
And it comes against a disturbing backdrop. Just one week earlier, a Hasidic father was brutally beaten in Outremont in front of his children, his kippah torn off and thrown into a fountain as if to humiliate every Jew in Montréal. These are not disconnected events. They form a pattern — one of escalating hostility, growing violence, and the steady drumbeat of intimidation directed against Jews. From physical assaults, to public threats of murder, to harassment on our streets, this wave of antisemitism has become a regular, weekly occurrence. It is poisoning our city.
Enough. Jewish Montrealers are not targets. We are not pawns in someone else’s hatred, nor are we expendable citizens whose safety can be bargained away. Arrests are a start, but arrests without meaningful sentences are no deterrent at all. Anything less than the harshest application of justice sends the chilling message that Jewish blood is cheap, that Jewish institutions can be menaced, and that death threats can be shrugged off.
We demand vigilance, seriousness, and accountability. We call on law enforcement not merely to react, but to be proactive — to increase presence in our neighbourhoods, to take every threat seriously, and to treat attacks against Jews with the gravity they deserve. We call on our political leaders, from the City of Montréal to the provincial and federal governments, to do more than issue platitudes. They must act decisively to ensure that this climate of hostility is stamped out before it spirals further.
The Jewish community of Montréal has lived proudly and openly for generations, and we will continue to do so. We will not be intimidated into silence or invisibility. But we will also hold to account those who enable this atmosphere of hate, whether by inaction, indifference, or weakness. The time for half-measures is over. The time for real action is now.
The Toronto International Film Festival’s reasoning for canceling the October 7 documentary screening is completely absurd and transparently dishonest.
Pulling a movie because footage wasn't cleared for copyright by a terror group is so ridiculous that it would almost be laughable—if it weren't so deeply, shamelessly disturbing.
@TIFF_NET seemed more concerned with avoiding protesters than with telling the truth, which undermines its credibility.
"The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue" deserves to be seen. We will not allow the voices of Hamas' victims to be silenced, and we call on TIFF to reverse this outrageous decision immediately.

TIFF’s reported requirement that the filmmakers get 'permission' from Hamas terrorists to use footage they broadcast live while committing mass murder seems absurd.
We join our partners @CIJAinfo in calling on TIFF to reverse the highly problematic decision, which will help ensure Jewish Canadians feel safe & welcome.
