Yesterday's visit to the Science Museum's Versailles: Science and Splendour exhibition.

The picture of the pineapple celebrated the first grown in one of Versailles's hothouses. The first pineapple gifted to Louis XV was on Christmas day in 1733 🍍

Finding something you've only seen in a book is exciting! Around three years ago, I read about the Holtzapffel lathe. The connection was made when I saw this turned roundel/disc last week! Not the most valuable item but truly fascinating!

@baggottsilver I have kept an eye out for anything with similar turning since first being aware of it. This is the first piece I have ever seen. Funnily enough, the family have a significant engineering background.

A sailor's pan bone basket,
mid-19th century, with a wonderful pencil inscribed base '... St Helena'

A similar example resides in the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Massachusetts

Riihimäki Harlekiini/Harlekin glass, late 1950s, designed by Nanny Still.

According to this reference book I have, it's a model 1742 juice decanter. 🍋🍹🍊

£6.50 seemed reasonable 💸
