@bardseyben @RobThomas14 @sjurdur @TheSeabirdGroup Surely that’s a Faroese Hummingbird’s egg! 😜
I’ve seen this in tern eggs but then it was usually just one in a clutch of three
@ChrisCachiaZamm @BirdWatchIE Look, that’s the days I am not posting about ;) although, to be fair, weather has been mostly good until now
Sending you some waterproofness x
Wonderful and beautiful day in the “office” today! @BirdWatchIE
(Doing productivity monitoring of seabirds from a distance using the scope so that no birds are disturbed.)
Alt Text: 1st pic - gannets as seen through a scope. One bird is standing up and looking down at its new chick
2nd pic: several gannets with all-black eyes
3rd pic: gannets with normal eyes (small black dot-like pupil)
First gannet chick (1st pic) of the season on Ireland‘s Eye spotted during ongoing seabird productivity monitoring work for @BirdWatchIE
Also 1st time (for me) seeing gannets with all-black eyes, a sign they survived an HPAI infection (compare birds in 2nd+3rd pics). Survivors!
20 year anniversary of the completion of the rat eradication project on Lundy. Then there was a handful of puffin remaining and extinction from ‘Puffin Island’ loomed. Last week we counted 700 puffin in Jennys Cove alone! Amazing recovery. Other auks and kittiwakes increasing too
Beautiful day to decide on the @BirdWatchIE seabird monitoring plots around Bray Head. Many bird species are on eggs, and the Kittiwakes were busy collecting nesting material.
Several #seabird species, especially common guillemots and #puffins in the SEAPOP-colony Hornøya, are currently affected by an #oilspill. The source of the oil is unknown. Article in Norwegian - pictures speaking for themselves
#pollution https://t.co/fBoaJTARrK
#audiomoth people: is anyone willing to sell their audio moth? I need two urgently and they are not available at short notice. Please DM.
Also: has anyone tried alternatives to audio moths? (Which?) has anyone tried using hydro moths as audio moths (with different casing)?
(AL) We are continuing to receive calls about oiled #seabirds, primarily Guillemots, from all along the #Wicklow and #Wexford coast. If you find an oiled seabird in the coming days, do not touch it. This is for your own safety. Instead, follow the steps below 👇
#oilspill
(AL) 🧵(1/4) Oiled seabirds, including Guillemots, are being reported along the #Wicklow and #Wexford coastline. The source of this oil has yet to be established but we understand that the @IrishCoastGuard is investigating this at present.
