What a great atmosphere at the Aim High Festival in Higham Ferrers today.

A free community event organised by Ailsa’s Aim, bringing people together for a wonderful weekend of music, performances, stalls and activities; while raising awareness and funds for a charity doing some truly important work. 💚 If you haven’t already, do pop down - there’s plenty going on and lots to see and do until 8pm!

My thanks to everyone at Ailsa’s Aim for the work they do supporting people through cancer treatment, as well as parents and families with babies receiving neonatal care and offering practical support at times when people need it most.

I was also really interested to hear about the charity’s work across beyond Northamptonshire, supporting families wherever they may be receiving treatment. When someone is already going through a difficult time, having support available wherever they are can gives families the reassurance of knowing that support is there, wherever they are being treated.

A huge well done to everyone who made Aim High happen. 👏💚

🚗 Save Free Car Parking 🚗

Residents made their views clear during North Northamptonshire’s Council parking consultation last year:
Keep Parking Free in Wellingborough and Rushden.

Months later, Reform-led NNC still refuses to rule out parking charges.

At a time when our town centres are already under pressure and we continue to see shops closing on our High Streets, we question why parking charges are even being considered.

We all want to see our town centres improve and thrive and so regeneration should encourage people back into our towns, not make it more difficult and expensive to visit them.

Many residents are rightly concerned about the impact new charges could have on local businesses, accessibility and surrounding residential streets.

That’s why we’ve launched this petition calling on Reform-led NNC to rule out parking charges and protect free parking in our towns.

The strength of feeling from residents and local businesses has been impossible to ignore, and it shows what can happen when a community speaks with one voice.

A gentle pace for Easter weekend, slow enough to notice the tender bloom of spring.

A walk over to Chichele College in Higham Ferrers where the gardens are coming into their own. Tulips at their brightest 🌷 and blossom beginning to scent the air.

Along the way, the knitted Easter decorations dotted around town caught my eye. Thank you to those who give their time and effort to these small acts of care.

In the soft turning of the season, it’s good to take in what’s already here, right on our doorstep.

It was great to drop into the coffee morning at Wellingborough United Reformed Church and see the wonderful displays marking 150 years of the church and its place within the wider Christian community, alongside an exhibition celebrating 500 years of the Bible in English.

The current building on the High Street dates back to 1876 and was built through the efforts and fundraising of local people.

A real testament to the strength of community spirit in Wellingborough.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome and for sharing such an interesting part of the town’s heritage.

Tom Hayes is a victim of a miscarriage of justice.

He was wrongly imprisoned for five and a half years.

He is owed nearly £300,000 by the Government.

Yet, because of internal disagreement among Government departments over who should pay, he has not seen a penny.

I’m old enough to remember the Labour Manifesto at page 67 when they promised ‘Labour will fast-track rape cases, with specialist courts at every Crown Court location’

THAT is what was voted for, not the restriction of jury trial for thousands of ordinary people.

I would add a further, historical point. Summary justice was invented in 1414, and extended in the 1420s, specifically as a tool of labour oppression - to ensure the enforcement of maximum wages. There may well be precedent, but the context should make Labour think twice.

They now acknowledge parking is necessary, reflecting the case we’ve consistently made. But the answers remain vague.

Happy Republic Day to everyone celebrating! 🇮🇳

It was a pleasure to attend the Republic Day celebrations yesterday organised by @theWDHA at the Highfield Community Centre, marking 77 years of the Republic of India 🇮🇳 .

The evening was filled with incredible performances, from vibrant dance routines to moving poetry. They reflected the richness of Indian culture and a strong sense of pride and community.

Thank you to the organisers, performers and everyone involved for a memorable celebration.
