My wife and I run a pediatric speech therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA practice right here in Nevada. We’re passionate about helping kids reach their full potential—but the state is making it incredibly hard.
Key issues we’re facing:
• Medicaid reimbursement rates for speech therapy haven’t seen meaningful increases in over a decade (some rates stuck since ~2010 or earlier, like ~$30/15 min for certain services). This lags far behind many other states.
• Nevada ranks dead last in the nation for speech-language pathologists per capita (only ~32-33 SLPs per 100,000 residents, vs. national average ~60+).
These low rates and severe shortages mean longer waitlists, burned-out providers, and too many children going without the early intervention they desperately need. Our community’s kids deserve better.
Policymakers: It’s time to update reimbursement rates and invest in our therapy workforce. Families are counting on us—let’s make Nevada a place where kids thrive.
