@OrinKerr I can't really read the fine print, but my gut instinct is the answer is no. Isn't the standard REP? If everyone can come in except for law enforcement, seems no real expectation of privacy exists?
@SeanTrende I honestly don’t know why your comment riled so many folks. It seems pretty intuitive. Candidate with baggage + opposing party wave = possibility of unusual loss.
I think people don’t understand that saying something has a 50% possibility of happening doesn’t mean it will
@father_tiresias@hjessy_ The distinction between attorney and lawyer is something that many lay people believe is true, but I am not aware of any jurisdiction in the United States that makes such a distinction. Lawyer and attorney are synonymous and mean someone with a law license.
@hjessy_ I agree with you that no one would care either way. That said, the attorney example is not equivalent to this. There are multiple legit sources that say physician = M.D./D.O. So arguably this "controversy" isn't even based in a technical lie.
@xenocryptsite Lawyer and attorney are synonymous (despite lots of uninformed people claiming there is some distinction) and both mean you have license to practice law.
There is no specific term for someone who has a J.D. but has no license to practice.
@MattZeitlin Realistically, wouldn't a Dem majority just do what McConnell did and prevent the nominee from obtaining a hearing or vote on the floor? I'm not familiar enough with the procedure, but would there be a mechanism for someone to force a vote on whether to have a vote?
@Uncouth_Bard Easily the single most impactful professor from my college experience (and largely so due to discussions *outside* the classroom). Bro. Allen was a kind, intelligent, patient man who made very person he spoke with better for knowing him.
@SeanTrende Taking out cumbersome student loans for law school can certainly be a major financial error. But I think that a lot of the legal community places outsized weight on whether folks get big law jobs. Statistically, big law accounts for <10% of all lawyers!
@SeanTrende What's sometimes lost in this is that there are a LOT of factors at play re: whether you get a "good" legal job. Just by way of example - if you go to Ole Miss you're not likely to make Cravath scale, but as a career move it is 100% the right option if you want to stay in MS
@DrewSav The only thing you need to now is that administrative stays are, as the name suggests, administrative. They want to pause things to (quickly) consider if they want to review.
As a general rule, you can’t read much into administrative stays. Anything is on the table.
@SeanTrende@davidshor It’s something that happens whenever you try to categorize people, but there’s substantial bleed over in the categories such that I wonder how floaters don’t dominate. Band kids (which encompass choir) seems overlap with theater. And both had lots of nerds and gamers!
